Really enjoyed this one for some reason. At one point I thought The Union was going to be Romana's valeyard. And then I thought the Doc was going to degenerate forward into the valeyard but apparently it was supposed to be Capaldi Might get that young war doctor series. The impression is uncanny. Do. It's a terrific series. Highly recommended.

I think the individual performances in this were all excellent, with the exception of Dudman's 12 (which is strange because I thought his 12 has been getting better and better over the last few outings. Oh well. I just thought it was kind of a mess as a whole. Maybe I need to listen to it again.

This was a nice excuse to have nearly all of the Doctors in an anniversary adventure and I had fun listening to it. Still ended up with more questions than answers and left thinking “there should have been a better way”.
I also think my enjoyment of these stories is higher than others simply because I haven’t listened to many Doctor Who audios this year, so I found these more of a treat.
The highlight of these releases have been the music. I am pleased I got the Special Editions if only for the music suites.
As I have already said it was nice to have nearly all the Doctors in this final audio, so it really was a shame that Christopher Eccleston wouldn’t allow his voice to be used in this, resulting to the Ninth Doctor’s glaring omission. Shame the same wasn’t true for the Twelfth! Dudman’s Eleventh Doctor had already won me over, so the opportunity to hear the other recast Doctors in this story gave me hope for some more “wins”! But alas that wasn’t the case. I was most surprised that the War Doctor didn’t, as what little I had heard previously from Jonathon Carley had sounded very authentic.

I am afraid this series just was not for me. Yes, it is a fun run around. Nothing more. However, as with the previous releases, it just was too many characters crammed in, running around, doing things, and it got a bit confusing. There just is no room to breathe. It is okay. But there is room for improvement. Sadly, a flawed anniversary release.
Maybe this will improve and be easier to follow on a second listen?
I just hope that the upcoming 7th Doctor Last Day release does a better job juggling the many characters.

Fresh up on CultBox, my take on Once and Future: The Union - a satisfying conclusion.
