Hi all, I'm an occasional lurker, but thought I'd just contribute a little specialist knowledge. I’ve read a lot of ire being directed towards Panini on this thread, but you’ll notice that Pat Mills talks about the ‘original’ publisher who still own the copyright to his stories. That's not Panini. Yes, Panini have produced numerous collections over the last couple of decades with The complete Fourth Doctor collection just being the latest. Panini have a licence to reprint in the UK and Europe. IDW had a similar licence for the rest of the World when they held the rights to Doctor Who. Titan, who took over from IDW, haven't as far as I'm aware. Legally, for exploitation purposes, Beep and the Wrarth Warriors are Marvel Characters. Disney own Marvel, and therefore they are Disney IP.
I believe this *might* be incorrect. The following information doesn't necessarily contradict what nomad has said, but I think it casts a certain doubt on it.

You know, that's what I originally thought the situation was, that Panini bought the assets of Marvel UK, not just the license to print.

Holy meeps - two million more in just one day. I thought it'd clear the typical 1.5 catchup from Jodie's in a week with ease, but it beat that in a single day? 'No need to ask why, do it for the Most High! You are Meep's Friends - view them all!'
One of those 1.5M views is from me watching it again, and another will be me on a second rewatch tomorrow. Loved it.
So, I just had an argument with someone who said the episode lost 1 million viewers within the first ten minutes (where he got the stat from, I don't know), and that was a sign of something-something 'Disney bad'. Explaining the 5m it got overnight, then the 7m it got on Sunday, and the potential 10-11m we could be staring down by now, went in one ear and out the other.
Some people really will just say green when you say purple.

They do collect those sort of segmented viewing stats but I didn't think they were released in a real-time way. If correct, it was probably people turning off who couldn't cope with all the excitement and had to go for a quick lie down, then they've been watching it on iPlayer instead.
(Incidentally, if one is from Alpha Centauri, one can be both green and purple at the same time or alternately, with no difficulty at all. *blinks eye, waves tentacles*)

Someone trying to compare the *live* numbers of Who and Strictly and spinning as Who flopping is just not worth it. Who has, for nearly 20 years, almost always lost to Strictly in live figures. That show, or I'm A Celebrity, has an older casual audience who don't tend to catchup to the same degree. Just like when Who would usually be beaten live by Ant & Dec in the Tennant and Smith era...then squash the Geordies when catchup was factored in. BTW, 1.62mill watched on Sunday - not quite the 2million Jane was saying but still wonderful. And Number 13 made a point earlier about rewatched, but repeat views are filtered out during the tally.
I still think we're looking at 8.5mill in the +7s rather than the 10 Shalla thinks or the 10-11 Nucleus does but we'll see early in the week. That'll be a reasonable barometer of the final figure anyway - a few hundred thousand at most watch any show after the 7 but before the 28 days. Most of the catchups are done in the first day.
At this point it's guessing whether the show has come back as a smash hit or a super smash hit - it's only varying degrees of great news.

Okay, my estimates may have been caught in a bit of the hype, but I do think, even if the 7 day comes in at circa 7.5-8m, not only is that a great result, it puts to bed a lot of narratives around the show and the health of the brand.
Aside from the actually meaningful 'the UK public is not as anti-trans as its media mouthpieces', it also tells us that neither Peter nor Jodie's tenures caused this irreparable damage to the brand because of some messy stories and arcs a minority of a minority spent years screeching about. It comes back to things I've discussed before - if you actually market and provide proper supporting content, Who can not only be relevant, it can thrive in a shifting, even shrinking, TV landscape. The average punter doesn't give a single toss about how hybrids or Timeless children 'ruin the lore' - they want a fun show, and know where/when it's actually on. It took the BBC 10 years to finally learn the lesson, but hopefully they have.

One thing that I haven't seen anyone mention is that the last name of Rose's friend, Merchandani, is the name of one of the families that Donna lived with in Turn Left.

RTD likes the reuse names (villain of Years & Years shares a name with journalist from The Sound of Drums for example). It’s a nice little detail in this case.

Am I mistaken or does one of the possessed UNIT soldiers mention the TARDIS? When they’re assaulting the Noble household, I’m sure they say something about securing the TARDIS.

144 complaints, vs what, by the time the 31 days come in, will probably reach 8 million views. I suspect the country doesn't actually mind Rose or what she identifies as that much.

RTD gives us some ratings news.
Even if he's a little off like Tranter was, it's more than plausible we've crossed 8m by now. Good times.

Honestly i found the star beast to be the absolutely worst introduction to a New Doctor in New Who and probably one of the worst episodes of all time
as an adaptation it completely deviates so much from the star beast comic
The Story is awful its completely dependent on coincidences and contrivances, it completely undoes Journeys End and The End of Time with the stakes, Donna not dying from the metacrisis is poorly done Some of the worst acting especially from Yasmin Finney
The Whole Male Presenting Timelord sequence i honestly see why it has been aggressively mocked online
id have to give the story a 1 out of 10
