RTD already said more are in the works. What are some other stories that would be a great intersection of benefiting from a trim and being accessible jumping on points for newcomers to sample the old show?

Well, the article follow up said the plan is to do them all! Which seems rather ambitious to me, and maybe a bit redundant. But a lot of the stories with the "captured, esecape, captured again.." trope can be tightened easily.
What ones in particular?
Tomb Of The Cybermen used to turn up near the top of DWM polls. It won the "most anticipated missing eps" poll. Then it came back. It's still great but....for a modern audience? Shave 20mins of it. Mostly through faster edits rather than excising full scenes and I think it soars again. Let's remember these are also adding new music, dialogue and FX where needed so a few things could really get this on top.
I think it's the best classic series use of the Cybermen that works in tandem with their modern depiction as a major threat, has some major peril, performances and scenes that would work for a modern audience...seem perfect.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Planet of Giants would work brilliantly with a modern episode’s length. The War Machines The Gunfighters The Mind Robber

You never cut Lynda Baron out! No, how about....dubbing over some decent American accents?

The War Games. I mean TEN episodes? Certainly some stuff that can be trimmed but like Keys Of Marinus it's one of the few >4 episode stories that has so many different settings and parts it never feels like it's just one set thing. If anything it feels like something akin to Flux in the modern series.

Wouldn't that make it a very short story indeed?
(For the avoidance of doubt - and possibly a brawl in 'The Last Chance Saloon' - I like 'The Gunfighters', ballad and all.)

Interesting thread. I guess you could 'New Series' some four parters and make them modern one episode stories, but I'd really be thinking of six-parters, so some Third Doctor suggestions:
'The Ambassadors... of DEATH!' : I think this is a great story but it must have been very hard to follow spread over 7 weeks. Over two evenings, viewing 3/4 parts a night it's much easier. But I'm sure that with some careful trimming it could be a fast-paced four-parter simply heaving with action sequences and a fine intro to the UNIT era.
'The Mutants' : for me this is the only dull Pertwee story. Worthy, but dull. Half the length and it would be much better. 1/3 the length and maybe better still... But not the intro to the era that was called for.
'The Monster of Peladon' : again, I like the story but really because it picks up the pace no end from episode 3 onwards. So, an easy editing job for this one: cut all the round and round padding from eps 1 & 2 and there would be about 10 minutes left; a little nip and tuck somewhere in the remaining episodes and there's The Other Four-Parter of Peladon ready to go. And it would be much improved imo, but still not the best jumping-on point.
I thought about the Tom Baker classic six parters, but quite honestly 'Genesis', 'Talons' and 'The Seeds of Doom' never seem a second too long to me. Brilliant, all of them.
But if you really wanted to make 'The Seeds of Doom' into a short-movie-length story, the pace would be terrific - even more like 'The Sweeney' than it already is! The action thriller style would probably appeal to many new fans. What other of the more recent fans of the Doctor ('I'm a pacifist') would think when this Doctor smashes a chair over one thug's head and puts another in hospital with the help of a car door, and then rounds things off by calling in the RAF to bomb the alien menace to smithereens, I really couldn't say...

For every exercise in padding it does inch the plot forward, even if escape/capture loops are annoying. It does make sense to be next candidate to slim down though. Like The Daleks it’s a monumental moment for the show but 10 episodes makes a pretty high barrier for entry.

Top 3 options for me
Myth Makers
(Dull and takes Ages to get anywhere)
Celestial Toymaker
(I don't know why but the Games, Steven and Cyril really irritate.)
The Silurians
(Why do we have to see every trip to the Caves in full? trim them saves at least a Episode)
Regards

I think The War Machines would be a good shout. It feels quite modern in that it’s a modern day invasion story, it’s a companion exit/introduction and I don’t think it would take much effort to trim it down.

I think these may be tricky choices, particularly The Myth Makers. Also, The Myth Makers is very funny.

Release the episodes in full or don't color them at all, as wonderful as seeing The Daleks incolor was I found the editing especially towards the last half of the story to be very jarring.
