Fresh up on CultBox. my take on The Battle of Giant's Causeway - "...not sure that an endless intergalactic conflict should be quite this much fun!"

Enjoyable enough but nothing amazing. A standard early 8th Doctor story but better than a lot of what BF do at the moment.

Loved this one. A lot of fun, great use of the TARDIS team, which isn’t easy with three leads in a 60 minute story, especially as one hasn’t been around for 15 years. McGann sounds more energised in this than I’ve heard him in years; not that he puts in a bad performance, but here it’s pure energy! Really liked the use of Charley and that’s from someone who’s not keen on the character; adore India’s MasterChef narration, mind!
Thought the concept was great, the Sonturions never felt forced and the whole story produced some quite striking imagery. Loved Joe Kraemer’s score here, hope that continues throughout the range and doesn’t feel repetitive as we progress.
Roll on the next release!

They came! They saw! They - turned into Romans?
(I was a bit behind on my listening so I decided to save this one until Part 2 was released, then splurge!)
That was an excellent start to the series, a spooky setting in the thick, unnatural fog (straight out of 'Fang Rock' of course, and weren't those musical wailing background voices the same ones as in 'Static' btw?), Sonturions halfway between the serious and the entertaining varieties with a great performance from John Banks and the Rutans doing what they do. I'm sure we all knew from the start who 'the walking dead' really were, but C'rizz didn't and we see that side of the story from his viewpoint so it worked well. Watching him empathise with the 'queen of the raised' as one 'outsider' to another worked very well - and I guess we were all saying 'no, C'rizz get away from her she's a RUTAN!'
I was excited about seeing Eight, Charley and C'rizz back together, having enjoyed their run of MR stories - but of course this was the first one which was a current release for me, the others having been well before my BF time. It fully lived up to my expectations - was it really 15 years since they last did this? It sounded more like last week, spot-on performances throughout a great script.
Now looking forward even more to the rest of the series. And I don't even have to wait until next Saturday for Part 2.
