Great Celebration of Sixy Also a couple of fascinating insights from the Companions about why they are Companions, the central plot maybe too predictable, however punctuated by these unexpected Character moments from the Regulars its solid Of course the draw in is a showcase performance Colin, who manages to give a vocal distinction on 3 of his Docs without missing a beat, [ I was surprised at which 2 sounded similar though]
Strongly Recommended

Love this one so much, it did such a great job celebrating Six and his companions. It's basically become the gold standard for anniversary celebrations for me from Big Finish.
Also, I was realizing how cool it is - 40 years ago watching Twin Dilemma as a kid I had no idea that Colin would get a whole second life and become one of my most beloved Doctors thanks to a series of audios. We've had so many great stories with Colin over the year. Even though Big Finish doesn't always hit for me and I do take breaks when I get tired of them, I feel so lucky that they're part of the world. Most fandoms don't get anything like this level of continued extended media. It's one of the big reasons that even when I'm relatively low on money, I make sure to set a little aside for Big Finish - they've made my life better.

I agree with you all, this was loads of fun. And as much as underwhelming as I have found Jac Raynor's run as producer of the Sixth Doctor Adventures, I think this has been a marvelous celebration. I think my favorite moments have been 1) Sixie and older Peri's heartfelt conversation. What a great, healing moment for Peri as well as all of us fans that still bristle at that post regeneration scene. 2) Six reciting all of his Tardis teams in order and 3) just hearing Lisa Greenwood back on audio with Six and Constance. I am so happy that she is healthy and able to resume working for BF.
The whole thing was a joy to hear, from start to finish.

I'd say that the best way to describe this is a whole that is much greater than the sum of its parts. Each episode is fun, but on their own most of them feel insubstantial. The exceptions being Sibling Rivalry, Children of the Revolution, and The Thousand Year Thaw. Sibling Rivalry and Children of the Revolution were a really fun Sontaran story that could almost exist on its own. The Thousand Year Thaw was an excellent older Peri story. I've loved what Big Finish has done with older Peri, but this one really took it to a new level. I love the way they addressed the unpleasantness of The Twin Dilemma.
Overall, this was a really fun celebration of the Sixth Doctor's era. All his companions get moments to shine. Also, it makes sense that the Quins are all underdeveloped, they're more a McGuffin than characters. My only complaint is the inclusion of H.G. Wells. Why? He doesn't add anything to the story. If they were going to add another Sixth Doctor companion, why not Hebe? Besides that, I felt like this was a perfect celebration of the Sixth Doctor.
It was fun to hear the list of companions in chronological order, but doesn't this mean that it will be harder for Big Finish to create new companions in future without contradicting this?

I rather liked how they resisted the temptation in “the Exaltation” to say that Mel was a good dancer simply because Bonnie is.

Finally I can read this thread again! (Well number13 if you will listen to a high-profile release one episode per day what do you expect? )
Loved it, from start to finish, absolutely loved it. I'd read little and not even glanced at cast or episode details, so my 6 nights with Sixie were full of surprises and variety. Picking a few out of the vortex - an 'historical' story, two Peris, Sontar-ha!, Herbert (I didn't see that one coming that's for sure ) and a splendidly celebratory tone to mark the 40th season of Sixie.
Which still gave room for the lovely, contemplative scenes with Peri - echoes I thought of them walking arm-in-arm through the autumn woods of "Ravelox" - and the meaning of being a Companion to the Doctor, and to this remarkable Doctor especially. 'The Quin Dilemma' heals the jarring and well out-of-place start of 'The Twin Dilemma', in style. Of course the quiet moment in their lives can't last, and fairly soon it's the usual chaos and Peri riding to the rescue on a giant tractor, as you do!
I guessed the solution to the heirship of the kingdom right at the start of 'Firstborn' as I'm sure many of us did - it's a favourite of classic literature isn't it, the 'lost' child who turns up all virtuous (having been raised as 'one of us') to take the throne / country house / fortune etc. from the the priviliged and rotten presumed heirs. But Sixie likes and quotes from the classics, so I'm sure he would approve!
The real fun of the finale was the rest of the time-tangling plot, the 'Blinked Oat Fish Lemon-tasting Effect' (or whatever it's called) and just being in the same room as Sixie x 4 and friends - and what fun to hear his timeline recited definitively by the Doctor himself. (This is why I tend not to worry too much about correct 'placement' and just enjoy the stories. Only a Time Lord (or maybe sherlock!) can keep track of all this stuff. )
First class from BF and all involved, a splendid birthday cake in six slices (probably one of Evelyn's chocolate specials) and a worthy tribute to my favourite audio Doctor and his excellent Companions.

I wasn't as enamoured with this as everyone else, it seems. For me, it was littered with lovely moments stuck in weird trappings. The middle two stories were fantastic, I loved hearing from Constance & Flip again, I loved the heartfelt conversation between the Doctor and Peri in The Thousand Year Thaw and I thought Colin did a smashing job at differentiating between the four Doctors; much better than just "Ol' Sixie" throughout.
What I wasn't keen on is the format in which the story is presented. The overall arc isn't strong enough to dominate, but the individual stories aren't enough to really stand on their own, as we're thrust in the middle of events and know how they will end to connect to the wider story. The Sontaran episodes fared best, as they were effectively one one-hour story. Throw in some awfully meta elements, namely the Quins and the 40 year gap, and some outright painful moments, such as the Doctor listing his TARDIS teams and "the first face this face saw", and the whole thing is just weird and unsatisfying.
Feels more of an amalgamation of moments than it does something cohesive. I wonder if part of it is due to the format Big Finish releases adhere to? If this was televised, we could get a "core" story that is littered with the individual moments told as flashbacks that build up that "core". So something like the Doctor and Peri's conversation would be in aid of the story being told, rather than being a moment thought of that then has to fit into a 30 minute episode, that then has to serve a wider 3-hour celebration.
A funny one. Not bad, full of lovely moments but doesn't quite reach its potential. A bit like Sixie's TV run actually; perhaps this is an apt celebration after all...? *cue end credits sting*

Lots of fun this one. Im glad it didnt get split into one-offs as has happened with a good few boxsets this year.
I wish Colin's voice was a bit more sturdy though - but age cant be helped - as he used to be able to do the older Sixie with a warm cuddly tone then the next story play a Series 22 era version with the same arrogance and snap he did then. His voice now means the different eras all sounded very much the same.
I was happy that in the middle of a silly story he and Peri had a very very mature conversation. That is long overdue. He tried to kill her after all and to carry on regardless was always weird. This shows her hurt and her realisation that she is not going to be anyones victim even if it means to not travel in space and time. And the Doctor gets to show that he hated himself for it too but buries it which is inkeeping for Colin and the Doctor overall.

What a waste of time, most of the stories were too short to establish themselves (the Sontaran 2 parter being the exception) & the brothers were annoying & their overarching plot uninteresting.

Obviously opinions are valid but the brothers are surely supposed to be annoying? They're brattish and whiny, sure, but that's their character.
Wonder if we'll ever hear Romulus and Remus back...they're not so intentionally annoying in The Twin, not Quin, Dilemma.

I enjoyed that. Loved the mentions of Evelyn, she really is ol’ sixie’s “Rose”, the person who made him grow as a person. ABSOLUTELY LOVED the older Peri forcing the Doctor to look at himself and then them both agreeing to travel together. It echoes beautifully Peri calling the Doctor her best friend in The Pimpernel story and the fierceness with which she defends him there. I freely admit to having a massive crush on Miranda Raison, so more Constance is always appreciated. Sure the plot is “thin” but rather it’s the icing on a cake celebrating the character of the sixth Doctor. And how better to celebrate the patchwork Doctor than with a patchwork story?

I agree, I'm hoping Big Finish start recording more in advance with the older doctors because as you said, not to be morbid but it's an unfortunate truth they won't be around forever. I'm definitely looking forward too it though I do worry it could be another O+F BF have been on record in the last couple years, respectfully confirming they are "stockpiling" recordings of 4, 5, 6 and 7. We all know Tom is roughly 6-7 years in advance of his recordings..
Holy crap, still? That's awesome. I remembered reading that he was several years out, but that was when we were on S7 or S8 I think. 6-7 more years from now is fantastic!
I hope he lives well, fully mobil, until somewhere past 110.... and enjoys Big Finish enough to keep right on doing it, even if he ends up doing less in a year. Sure, I'm greedy, but can you blame me?

After not enjoying the recent Sixie sets since the move to the box set era, I have to say that I really enjoyed this. Such a lovely way to celebrate Ol' Sixie and (most of) his companions.
