I don't know if there's a thread like this or not yet, but I thought it would be nice to have a place to discuss upcoming holidays/celebrations through out the year.
For instance the Chinese New Year just started today for those who celebrate and Valentines Day is on it's way.
Y'all got any plans or events you want to share?

Well, I managed to score a nearly 4 weeks off period during summer. Reason is, I will be going to two conferences and will take 2 weeks off during July, and during these 4 weeks, I will only work for 3 whole days. What a relief, I really need that break. Besides going to the conferences (which are always nice and relaxed, meeting old colleagues and listening to interesting talks, or giving a lecture myself), I do not think I will do any travel, but my dive club is thinking of doing some fun activities like a compass orientation dive in the local lake. Maybe I will go to the safari park again for a couple of days, that was awesome last year. And in September, I will be going to Italy again to the German Scuba Dive base on the island of Elba. That was great last year- it is late in the season, so only few people at the beach (which is great to relax and read books), the accommodation is good and right next to the beach, the food is great and the dive base is professional and the diving was fantastic. What more could I want from a holiday?

Good idea for a thread! I can't recall us ever having one like this. People have posted threads for specific individual holidays, but a general catchall thread sounds good to me.
The Jewish holiday of Purim is coming up next Saturday night. I'll be going to synagogue in costume on Saturday night (usually wear either my 4th or 13th Doctor costume cause I can get either together without a lot of work). And I'll be chanting half a chapter of the Biblical book of Esther in Hebrew (which I should be practicing right now; I've read this half chapter before but still need to review the melody and pronounciation). On Sunday I'll go back to synagogue to help out my son-in-law with the grandkids at the Purim Carnival. Hopefully I will have a festive Purim dinner with the family on Sunday. I need to go shopping this week for hamantaschen and other goodies to put in the mishloach manot bags that are traditionlly exchanged with friends.
Should be fun.

Easter is coming up next for us and I got a lamb roast planned.
Also, not a holiday but my Dad's birthday is next weekend and I'm planning on fixing him some sort of dessert. We got the stuff to make either a cheesecake or a chocolate pie and I'll let him pick which. What ever we don't have I''ll fix for Easter weekend to go with the lamb.

I don't follow any religious holidays apart from Christmas but will be planning some city breaks or other holiday getaways soon.

Happy Easter! In England it's traditional that Easter marks the start of the gardening year for many people - which isn't always the wisest idea, given that it's a moveable feast and given British weather comes straight from the Randomiser.
However, this year it is definitely mild and an early spring, so the garden is living up to the season and it's a great time for planting - if you can get outside without needing scuba gear. I did some work yesterday and have more planned for today, but already the early sunshine has gone and it looks like rain is on the way...
