Ok to be honest I am so glad, I know much of what I put here will not be popular but .... Well at least it honest I just hope they dump capaldi as well, I really feel the show has moved to far from what it should be a family show. Story's to complex, rely too much on back story and coupled with a doctor who is unliveable, change was need. Not to say there hasn't been some great stuff, just more misses than hits, and coupled with the fact I now know no one who watches it anymore, that's 20 people who watched and bought RTD era but have given up while moffats been in charge. I would have been happy if he had quit now! I was never that fond of Matt smith but he was like a piped piper with the kids, cannot imagine many 5 year olds running to capaldi. Great idea to move it, no more competeing with X factor, would rather it had a post Xmas slot but anything is better than 20:30 slot opposite X factor. But the best news is that Beeb is committed to at least another 2 series, which is surprising with the so so viewing figures even if you add in I player And the series is only to be delayed for 6 months On the whole I think it's good news. Gotta disagree re: capaldi. Think the only thing holding him back from being better (ditto Smith) was the show-runner. Besides, this should always be a show a child watches but an adult can appreciate as much (or more). No need to dumb it down, imo. The problem wasn't complexity of the plots. It was that they became complex and then fell apart into nonsense. Besides, children generally deserve a little credit. I'm no Einstein, but I definitely picked up on complexities in stuff like LOTR or The Mahabarrahta as a kid. Capaldi aside, and I think we will have to differ on that one i don't want it dumbed down no way, kids understand stuff fine, they just have to enjoy it. The two youngest I know 6 & 7 just don't care about new stuff, love tennent era watch DVDs of that all time in amungst avengers, frozen & hobbit. but current series their words not mine "it's boring"

It's funny how Big Finish will be producing and releasing more New Series material than the BBC this year! There's the War Doctor, Tenth Doctor and Donna, UNIT and Classic Doctors New Monsters. Personally, I'm most looking forward to more David Tennant and Catherine Tate.

I, like others, wonder Chibnalls opinion of Big Finish. I've never heard him mention it in interviews. In fact, I've never heard him mention the books either. I guess with RTD and Moffat having written Who books in the 90s and having dealt with BF in various roles makes us feel like all the showrunners must be intimately aware of media spinoffs and BF in particular

Or he may not like BF - some of the VNA writers certainly don't. And I know a couple of BF related folk who really dislike Nu-Who as well! Our first clue will be if Chibnall decides Nick should be replaced doing all the monster voices

And somewhere Paul Morris is banging his head into a wall screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!" Short of Terrance Dicks being announced as the new showrunner, I think that was always going to be the case!!!!!! (exclamation marks added for parody purposes only )

Our first clue will be if Chibnall decides Nick should be replaced doing all the monster voices Lawrence Miles infamously hates the New Series. His sole Big Finish credit is a Benny story. There are plenty of writers from the BBC Eighth and Past Doctor Adventures as well who have only written one or no audios.

Seeing some REAL bile on Facebook about Chibnall. Jesus...some people clearly shouldn't watch Doctor Who. The main character would absolutely detest them being so cruel and cowardly. By all means - have reservations but some of what I'm seeing on social media is disgusting and hateful. I can only imagine what Gallifrey Base is like!
It makes you realise how level mannered this forum is.

He also doesn't like BF at all despite doing the Benny. In his infamous 2013 "last" interview he called it bad fan-fic with over the hill actors and absolutely slaughtered Gary Russell. He said the only writer who will talk to him is Lance Parkin but he doesn't like Lance very much anyway. Quite an...unusual character. I can only imagine he's had a few punches in his time.

I'm not going to judge until there's material to judge, and I'll judge it on it's own merits instead of comparing it to something else. Some people just don't deserve the internet.

There's memes of him already on FB showing what he said about Colin's era. He's going to find it tough to respond to any critics when he starts That vid will be dragged out over and over... Attachment Deleted

I think it's fair - especially if you've only see his Who eps, or God forbid, Cyberwoman, to have reservations but saying the show is dead? Calling him all sorts of names? What do these people see in Doctor Who that they like? Do they identify with The Daleks? We should be used to seeing crap like that, I guess. The worst was with RTD. Every week's new ep brought waves of homophobia to Outpost Gallifrey (as was) and the mods did nothing. At least Moffat was usually attacked for his work and not his existence! It makes me worry how ashamed I'll be when we get our first female or ethnic minority actor as The Doctor. Fandom doesn't have a good record.

Sadly I've just seen a thread on GB titled Chibnall Must Go. I've no idea if this is a joke or anything, but if so it's in very poor taste. Doctor Who is a program that lives on change, so why, worst case, must fans be dragged into each new era kicking and screaming? Are we so cynical in today's age that we are hardwired to see the worst in everything? Let's see what he does before complaining about it shall we? If you don't like it, don't watch further and don't comment. Let those of us willing to give it a chance not have you spoil things. No wonder the old forum closed, the mods would be working overtime just keeping the more extreme users under control!
It's like Star Wars fandom, every decision will have its supporters and detractors, with the detractors being more vocal. The prequels suck because they are too different, The Force Awakens sucks because it's too similar to A New Hope. Make up your minds!

Sorry to be a grump at the party, everyone No need to worry. We won't begrudge you your opinion. And even if we were of the opinion that dissension is doubleplusbad, it's not exactly like we're partying, is it? The general reaction seems to amount to "Chibnall, eh?" Folks are hardly rejoicing in the streets. Personally, I feel rather sorry for Mr. Chibnall. While my feelings on his appointment are mixed (though it's far too early to pass judgement,) here he is, job of a lifetime, and everyone seems to be going either "Oh horror!" "Meh," or "Thank goodness we're rid of that Moffat bloke!" Not exactly the most encouraging reception. He has a lot to prove, and his first season will likely reflect that. Also, I should note that, whatever the quality of his Doctor Who-writing, what's more important is that he's a good script editor. My chief complaint about the Moffat era (which has had many to things to love, I hasten to add,) is his hands-off approach to script-editing, which results in things like the meandering "Curse of the Black Spot." So anyway, three cheers for the Moff, and hip-hip-hooray for Mr. Chibnall! Here's to the future!

If I were Chibnall, I'd be too busy laughing. Just landed one of the highest profile showrunning jobs in the world (imagine that in the 80s where the Beeb couldn't even find one person who would take it off of JNT!) and is in pre-production of Broadchurch 3, his massive hit that has draw HUGE audiences and garnered all sorts of awards.
As much as I want Capaldi to stay for 2 more, I think this next series will be it and then we'll get a fresh Doctor and showrunner for series 11. Nice symetry with when Moffat came in and made everything fresh with Matt and gives Chris a LONG time to prep and assemble his team.

And BTW, how awesome that the BBC are so confident in the show they just toss off "Yeah, in Series 11 when Chris takes over...."
How many shows are so important they get seasons promoted 2 years early?

I do think the interesting question is does Moffat come back to write scripts and does Mark Gatiss have the same quality of dirt on Chibnall that he has on RTD and the Moff? One of those questions is a joke.

How many shows are so important they get seasons promoted 2 years early? Moffat did sa interview some place that the BBC has a five year plan for the show. This is their international cash cow. It ain't going no where.
