And now David Darlington speaks me to about his audio work elsewhere and recent Dark Shadows audio output. www.collinsporthistoricalsociety.com/2018/05/podcast-alert-devil-and-david-darlington.htmlAt this point, there are few people who have been contributing to DARK SHADOWS as long as David Darlington. He's been involved with the Big Finish audios since the very beginning of the line, originally part of the technical staff creating the line's sound design to becoming a director and co-producer with Joseph Lidster. In this podcast, CHS international correspondent Robert Dick chats with Darlington about his work, covering topics ranging from how 1960s "Dalek-mania" in the UK paralleled the pop-culture phenomenon of Jonathan Frid, the coup of getting DOCTOR WHO's Matthew Waterhouse to write for the DARK SHADOWS audio line, his work with Audible, and the experimental "Quartet" series of short plays from What Noise? Productions, that involves a lot of the creative talent behind the DARK SHADOWS audios. (Note: The Devil does not actually appear in this episode. I just liked the pulpy alliteration of the episode title.)

Hah! Love the shade of Davy pointing out {Spoiler} that Dirk Mags actually exists so isn't legendary! That's my level of pedanticism.

Another great podcast! Davy's insights into the creative process behind What Noise and the "Quartet" series are terrific, and his brief teasers for the future of DS are very intriguing. I think we are in good hands with J & D. I love that they love 'DS'. Also pleased to hear highlights of Matthew Waterhouse's books with clips from them.

Happy to see that the Collinsport Historical Society is back with a few podcasts. Like many fans, I wish we could just get a little detail on Bloodline. I believe I remember hearing a snippet of the first recording of Bloodline, but then more recently, they have been talking about writing the audio. Perhaps it was wishful thinking. The series has been doing wonderful things and I don't want to rush the brilliance of Joe, Davey, et al, just a little detail on where things are, especially now that there's no foreseeable Dark Shadows.

New Podcast by me - Hooray!! Kathryn Leigh Scott and David Selby recently reunited to play Maggie Evans and Quentin Collins once more for Big Finish Productions in a four-story boxset "Maggie and Quentin: The Lovers' Refrain". Set after "Return to Collinwood", "The Lovers' Refrain" catches up with a very-much-in-love 21st Century Maggie and Quentin who find that as they get older - or at least as one of them does - life doesn't get any easier. Kathryn's recording sessions for this boxset took her to Los Angeles, New York and London. I snuck into the studio after she wrapped on her final day to grab a few words. Kathryn tells me about recording with (and without) David Selby and what she thinks of the new adventures their characters are now having. We also look back at the DARK SHADOWS 50th Anniversary celebrations - getting together with all the cast at both the fan event in Tarrytown, N.Y., and the group recording of the celebratory special "Blood & Fire". And looking further back Kathryn recalls working with Mitchell Ryan as Burke Devlin returned from the dead in "And Red All Over" and she remembers those DARK SHADOWS cast members no longer with us and how she wishes Big Finish had had the chance to work with them. Way back in 2014, Kathryn suggested her actress friend Daisy Tormé would be ideal to join the DARK SHADOWS audio adventures. After playing the well-meaning but ill-fated Melody Devereux in the highly acclaimed thirteen-part serial "Bloodlust", Daisy returned as a young Abigail Collins when we dropped in on 1767 Collinsport in the Scribe Award-winning "Blood & Fire". And now she's back once more in "The Lovers' Refrain". On a visit to the UK, Daisy fills me in on who she's playing this time, how she finds the voices for her characters, and her gratitude to Kathryn for bringing her into the DARK SHADOWS family. Warning: the episode of the podcast features mild spoilers.

A note about the post-production, Kathryn is coming very loudly in the right earbud but not the left. Made my think the left earbud had gone out.

Well....as long as one earbud works, we're OK. You'll need to wait for The CHS Podcast Mono Recordings Boxset, Omega. No refunds! Cheers for the pod, Bobod!

The good news is that all those auditory delights will be there when you're ready. I love rushing through brand new audio dramas and podcasts, but then it's sad when it's all done. Then again, I do love a good listen or two or a dozen... Big Finish has done a good job of weaving together so many bits from their stories and the original that are so sneaky sometimes it takes several relistens to fully appreciate them.

Really enjoyed the podcast with Kathryn and Daisy! They are both such great talents and so naturally warm and engaging! Nice job, Bobod! And lucky you to be able to chat and have conversations with such charming guests. I so look forward to hearing them both in Maggie & Quentin’s continued story. It’s next on my listening list.

...chat and have conversations with.... I really should proofread myself before hitting "POST", otherwise some redundant winners can leak through!

Great podcast with David Darlington! Glad I picked a quiet moment, that was really interesting - plus it was fun getting to hear some of the What Noise productions. (I don't think I'd realized before that there was one with Lizzie Hopley, I might have to put that on my wish list...)

New PodcastKathryn Leigh Scott and David Selby recently reunited to play Maggie Evans and Quentin Collins in the four-story boxset Maggie and Quentin: The Lovers' Refrain from Big Finish. Joining them in the anthology are Clark Alexander, Johnny Myers and Zara Symes, who sat with CHS international correspondent Robert Dick for a chat about Dark Shadows in the 1980s, ghost fishermen, swearing librarians, and the upcoming serial Bloodline. An earlier podcast with Kathryn Leigh Scott and Daisy Torme is linked to higher up the thread.
