I know I'm not posting much at present and realised what I have posted has been moans about the new improved upgraded super-duper website...
so on a positive note, I listened to 'Kingdom of Lies' again today while working in the garden on a sunny afternoon and remembered why I like BF so much. I quake in the evil presence of Nyssa the Destroyer!

Revisiting Return to Skaro. David Bradley is so wonderful as the First Doctor isn't he? But really all of the TARDIS team members are perfectly recast. Andrew Smith is one of the great Doctor Who writers.

Listened to The Lives of Captain Jack 3 and enjoyed all the stories. Turns out I listend to The Lives of Captain Jack 1 so long ago I forgot. So I listened again. Now I'm in the process of listening to Companion Chronicles 5SP: The Companion Chronicles - The Specials. I seem to recall having listened to this in bits as the individual stories were attached to Main Range releases. First time I'm listening in order like this.

In the afternoon I was still sorting out my newly downloaded 440GB of MP3/M4B files for 700-ish audios from Big Finish. Backing them up, and running a shell script (thanks to my husband!) to automate changing the folder names from ISBN numbers. I thought I'd check what applications on my Mac can play M4B (Apple lossless format), other than the obvious iTunes. So I opened up an audio file in QuickTime player. And then happily listened to half of The Chimes of Midnight. I'd only meant to check it played briefly! I will listen to the second half later this week. This April was 20 years since I first heard Chimes, the very first time I'd ever heard a Big Finish audio, the very first time I'd encountered the Eighth Doctor. What a way to start!

I recently bought Zygon Hunt and Wave of Destruction on vinyl. I gave Zygon Hunt a spin last night. Pretty good. I listened to Wave of Destruction this morning and really enjoyed it! I've always loved a Justin Richards story; he just gets what Doctor Who should be as a minimum if nothing else. And to hear Romana and K-9 back with 4 was a pleasure! Zygon Hunt I feel a bit more mixed about. It had some interesting stuff, but maybe because I'm less into the era/Terror of the Zygons I felt less committed. That said, I don't care for the main villains in Wave of Destruction, but I really enjoyed it. I'm slowly trying to get into audio Doctor Who properly... A good, fun restart - and I always love hearing/seeing actors reprise their roles. Any other good/great stories, classic or new Who, on vinyl that people can recommend? I'm looking to expand my collection more.

Honestly, try hitting the 1st 100 Main/Monthly Range stories- you get a mix of 5,6,7 and 8 - there are some amazing stories there- plus they are cheap too being Download only..

Conspiracy of Raven. I'm just onto The Vanishing Point.
Feels a step down from the rather splendid last Second Doctor set. Here it seems there is too little story spread across the box set, and not enough has actually happened so far, but I am greatly enjoying the atmosphere and performances.
I know it's a Marmite performance but I think Michael Troughton is terrific, and getting better in every outing.

As aussiedoctorwhofan said, the monthly range of classic Doctor Who stories is a great place to start. I personally also love Bernice Summerfield (the range Big Finish cut its teeth on), the Sixth and Eighth Doctors, and River Song. Enjoy! And hope you stick around for more discussion.

Listening to the Benny story "Bad Habits". There's a scene near the end where the bishop sounds eerily to similar to Stephen Noonan's First Doctor.
