Felt like giving Logopolis a spin today. I just really love the music in this one - it just screams 80s Doctor Who and I can’t imagine a story set during this time that doesn’t sound like this. The Watcher's theme has a wonderful little melody to it. Almost like a music box made of stars. Going out one by one. The universe folding in on itself like origami with a single defiant candle gleaming at its centre -- the Doctor. It's terribly evocative. I love the feeling once we get to Logopolis that we're seeing behind the cosmic props and sets, so to speak, at the lighting rig and stagehands who ensure the worlds spin and stars burn.

As part of my slow tour through the Classic series, I recently got the "Robot" DVD. I just started watching the first episode over breakfast. Turns out it is exactly what I needed. Already the first scene with the Brigadier treating the Doctor`s death and regeneration as every other Tuesday had me laughing. The Brigadier and confused 4 make a fantastic comedic duo and this is hilarious. This is wonderful, I was in dire need of a few good laughs.

Watching the extras on 'Revenge of the Cybermen' bluray. Good though the new features are (the S12 'Behind the Sofas' are great), I suspect that for fans of a certain age you can't beat the nostalgia of the old 'Cheques, Lies and Videotape' feature about the early days of recorded Who, official - and the other...
(My response to it as always is 'Videotape? Luxury! Back in't 70s I had audio cassettes to listen to and thought meself lucky, I did!' Which may explain my blase-ness when some small delay is announced to a Collection set with all its perfectly presented riches. )

A fan pointing their new home camera at a television screen and capturing the then otherwise uncapturable. The ingenuity there is really rather brilliant.

Thanks to BritBox, I’ve just finished watching Trial of a Timelord for the first time ever. I have to admit, I started with a fair bit of curiosity as the show was under pressure from the powers that be at the Beeb and I’d heard it was still striking a bit of an odd chord with atmosphere and so on. On the plus side, I went in knowing that Colin is excellent in Big Finish stories, so yes, a mixture of curiosity and some apprehension before watching this.
It does however hold up really quite well. Sabalom Glitz is very entertaining. A few people on reviews have compared him to Michael Robbins in The Visitation and I can see why. Roguish charm, ahoy!
Some of the atmosphere was great as an adult, watching it for the first time. I can see how it might have turned off the viewers though. Particularly poor Peri’s suffering in the second story. That wasn’t much fun at all, I’m afraid.
As for the costume design on the vervoids, I think the less said about that the better....
But looking at it all as a build up to The Ultimate Foe, it hangs together quite well. The first part of Ultimate Foe in particular is just excellent. Such a shame about the author. I think Mr Jayston deserves a prize for best evil laugh on the planet too. Excellent work!
So in summary, it all worked out quite well for me and I’ve actually been browsing Colin’s lost story BF collection and thinking that I probably need that in my collection really!

Underworld and The Invasion of Time. Enjoyed seeing both of them again very much. I think our Leela is starting to discover boys. The TARDIS is roomy and Sontarans have snouts. The Doctor searches for The Shed Key of Rassilon. I did not mention cellophane once.

'Revenge of the Cybermen' (again) but with the commentary and production subtitles. I always find the commentaries interesting and this is a very good one - Lis Sladen, Philip Hinchcliffe, David Collings and Roger-Murray Leach. Lots of info from the acting and production sides of the camera, I like that.

The Time Monster. Honestly, not as bad as it's made out to be. It's fine, certainly not the absolute worst. Although I'd definitely say there are misogynist undertones to the plot which is obviously pretty bad. Perhaps my expectations were so low going in that I was pleasantly surprised but yeah, probably a below average quality story, but not enough to make me question my love for the show as some reviewers have put it.

Yeah, Ruth's misandry is problematic... I don't think it could've ever aged well and it's a shame because it undercuts what's actually a rather competent character beneath. I will concede three things to the story, though. She's the one who fixes TOMTIT in the end, Jo is the one who saves the day in the TARDIS and the Master's plan to take control of Atlantis is scuppered because he thought the Queen didn't truly love her husband as she did. There were some genuine efforts storywise to work against it.

Genesis of the Daleks today. The giant clams were the standout stars.
Oh, and I guess the Daleks were in this one? I don’t know, must have been pretty brief...

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I don’t know if it’s misandry or a result of being constantly patronised: given the work of Jo and the Queen in this story I’d say it’s more of an attempt to stick up for herself.

Yeah, it's not unfounded. The Master's exceedingly patronising to her, I think seemingly for kicks. Ruth strikes me as someone who fought her way up through a boy's club, earning her doctorate and, miracle of miracles, a placement on an unconventional temporal physics project. Practical, rather than theoretical. Yet, she still isn't taken seriously by her superiors. That's got to prompt some resentment. The wrinkle comes in with Stu linking it to women's lib. There are some unfortunate stereotypes that get inadvertently tossed into the mix with that comment. As we've been saying, though, the story does make an effort to counterbalance that. Right down to the god-like Kronos taking on a female form when she's freed.

Snakedance part 1
Equally surreal and eerie sequel story to Kinda🐍💀 I love the strange dream imagery in both these stories! 😀 I am intrigued by the mirror maze and the fortune teller🤔 Also does anyone else think that thing 5 makes Tegan wear to block out her surroundings looks like an early iPod?! 😄 I think Snakedance and Kinda might be some of my favorite tv stories from 5’s era 🐍😃
Side note: I kind of want the Mara to be brought back for series 13 and and possess Yaz🐍 Anyone else think that could have some good potential plus imagine the surreal imagery you would get with the effects we have now!😀13 could even reunite with Tegan to help Yaz through the possession!

Snakedance Part 2
It’s such an eerie and atmospheric story and Janet Fielding really sells the possession!🐍💀 I actually got chills watching her!😱The set design for this one is gorgeous especially the mirror maze ( I am a sucker for a creepy hall of mirrors)😯 The Mara storyline is definitely one of my favorite aspects of the 5’s era!😀🐍

The Daleks - The Dead Planet
Before I 'Return To Skaro' I thought I'd better return to Skaro, if you see what I mean! One of the great first episodes, full of mystery and excellent designs and the splendid original crew carrying the episode alone. Surely this helped inspire the first episode of 'The Ark in Space' to launch a new Doctor and his Companions into space just over a decade later?
