Any opinions on Fury of the Deep, the Macra Terror, Web of Fear and Shada greatly appreciated as looking to gives these a try for first time. I love all of them except Web of Fear. I felt a bit let down by it despite the first appearance of Brig, the climactic scene, and one of my all-time favorite lines from Doctor Who being in it:
{Spoiler} "When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a scientist. So I became a scientist."

Audio Commentary to Snakedance (last episode)- the one where Davison makes some allusions to "Oh, I raise you David Tennant!" The others are curious. Davison "Oh, I must not say anything. Better we change the topic." (so I assume the commentary was done while Tennant had his first dates with Davison's daughter?)

Carnival Of Monsters - Whilst I don't DISlike this story (far from it), this is probably one of the few Classic-era stories that just... Does nothing for me.
The Faceless Ones - You know what I love? Departure stories where the companion(s) is front-and-centre, fighting the good fight and not completely missing for the entirety of the second half of a story... Oh. Wait. I adore this story to death, don't get me wrong, but yeah.

Re- watching Mind of Evil. Needed a pick-me-up and this serial is just wonderful. Great UNIT and Master shenanigans and Jo is more prominent in here and used to the best of her abilities.

Tomb of the Cybermen. Have not seen in this at least a decade. I agree with the general consensus. The first half of the serial is unquestionably superior to the second half. The Cybermen spend far too much time just standing about.

Watched Black Orchid. Tremendous production values and some good performances but boy what a misfire.

Covid isolation, day 4: Watching/listening to every Great Intelligence story (because it's technically a cross-through). You know, like a normal person...
Surprisingly, yes, I am doing better mental-health wise than I was when I had it last... Why do you ask?

The Dominators on Britbox Australia, but the dreaded “leaving soon” label has finally arrived. We have Disney plus too, but it’s not the same. I’d much prefer it stayed on Britbox. Not to mention the loss on ABC…
On the plus side, the quarks are fun and the Dominators costumes are excellently bulky as always!

The Rescue and The Romans for the first time.
Both pretty solid. I really liked The Rescue, great twist for the era.

Watched War of the Sontarans, which isn't half bad. It mostly does its job well of reestablishing the Sontarans as a credible threat in the Doctor Who universe.

Terror of the Autons
Not seen in years, absolutely brilliant.
The Master is fantastic and Jo Grant makes a wonderful debut, only a ham fisted bun vender would give this one a miss!

The Deamons and Day of the Daleks
The epitome of the Era followed by a story with Daleks in that doesn't quite know what to do with them.

Finished Season 13. Village of the Angels was a highlight of an otherwise unremarkable season. Eve of The Daleks was tremendous and Legend of the Sea Devils was a serious stinker. Clearly it was not given the same love and attention Eve of the Daleks was. A first draft script in need of several revisions.

Been rewatching the 12th Doctor era and I just don't know how I feel about him. Unlike the 11th Doctor, who hid his moodiness behind the childlike veneer the 12th Doctor is moody all the time. What are some thoughts on him?

Been rewatching the 12th Doctor era and I just don't know how I feel about him. Unlike the 11th Doctor, who hid his moodiness behind the childlike veneer the 12th Doctor is moody all the time. What are some thoughts on him? It's hard for me to pick a favorite Doctor out of, you know, the franchise as a whole... but when it comes to TV Doctors? Capaldi is hands-down my favorite. I was ecstatic when he cameo'd in the end of Day of the Doctor and he really did not disappoint. That said, of the New Who Doctors, I'd say Capaldi's era is the most mixed. Very high highs, unfortunately low lows. By series 10 he'd settled into the role as a calmer, more subdued, more alien sort of Doctor that pretty much hit all the right beats for me. But in series 8 (and, to a lesser extent, 9) his characterization felt just a bit off... like the writers weren't entirely sure what direction they wanted to take the character. But in series 10 he's perfect -- a sort of blend of the 4th and 7th Doctors. There's also the fact that Clara was one of the weaker companions the show has had, and as much as I admire Moffat's desire and capacity to try new things instead of sticking with the old and familiar... a lot of the things he tried in those latter years simply didn't turn out as well as they maybe should have. The Gallifrey Return arc was a bungled mess, the Hybrid thing went nowhere, etc. So, yeah. Once he's matured, I'd rank the Peter Capaldi's as a quintessential Doctor. Once they allowed him to just... be his own Doctor, without running around and shouting a lot like Smith and Tennant, he really rose to the occasion. To the extent where I cannot possibly overstate how eager I am to see Capaldi return to the role with Big Finish.

He needed someone to balance him out and that person was definitely not Clara Oswald.

Been rewatching the 12th Doctor era and I just don't know how I feel about him. Unlike the 11th Doctor, who hid his moodiness behind the childlike veneer the 12th Doctor is moody all the time. What are some thoughts on him? I’ve said it before, but I think Capaldi nailed it from day 1 and it took a season for the writers to catch up with him. His performance is consistent; it’s the writing that is trying to do an “older Matt Smith” thing in Season 8, but everything settles down in Seasons 9 and 10. But until Death In Heaven - where apparently the answer to “Am I a good man?” Is “No, I’m a madman in a box.” - Seqson 8 has him trying lots of different perspectives from the writers while Capaldi seems to be just playing a facade of grumpy with a heart of gold. Season 9 saw him settle down a lot, but he was still being socially inept (they’re funny, but I hate the index cards he uses to come up with an appropriate emotional reaction) rather than eccentric like all his predecessors. It’s like he’s doing everything that the Doctor normally does… but he has no idea why and it isn’t made clear through the writing if that’s because he’s starting a new regeneration cycle and things are a bit hazy, or if he really has no clue if he’s doing the right thing. And coming off the restating of the mission statement in Day of the Doctor just a few episodes prior it seems strange.
