Phenomenal audio drama, Tom Baker owns it as the Doctor, i love these longer stories & this adventure did not disappoint, a gripping listen from beginning to end.
My favourite era has made this fan extremely happy.

None too shabby a story. Tom's excellent, as is Louise. There's a lovely moment where Tom goes full "Oncoming Storm" when he thinks Leela's dead but in a uniquely Tom way and Leela's summation of the Dcotor as a warrior who fights with words, but sometimes words are not enough - expressing their relationship in a lovely manner.

Really quite excellent (unsurprising).
I think I too need to set aside 3h and give it another listen without taking any breaks.
I limited myself to two parts per day; given how much was packed into the story there were definitely some moments toward the start of each session where I'd be thinking "huh...ok...so these people are here now, doing this...don't remember how they got there but ok".

Absolutely brilliant! A great solid story with excellent performances.
I find I enjoy these longer Tom Baker stories more than the actual 4DA range. The Lost Stories, Novel Adaptations and the Phillip Hinchcliffe stories have all been outstanding in my book. Whilst I do enjoy the 4DA I don't find them as satisfying, a couple of the two disc stories I have, especially this years Paradox Planet/Legacy of Death, but on the whole I find the two part stories too short and not having room to breathe. I wish Big Finish would rethink the range - next year we have 9 releases - 18 episodes - would prefer that we had 4 releases with 3x4 parters and 1x6 parter (18 episodes) to allow the stories to grow more. But then I must say I am looking forward the next years 4DA releases.
Also want to call out the great cover for The Genesis Chamber - maybe Big Finish could repackage the first boxset in this style. Possibly releasing the two stories separately to make them more affordable.
Roll on the next Phillip Hinchcliffe release! And Big Finish can we have two or three PHP a year?

I agree, so far, and that's saying something. We've had some remarkable stories this year.

Very well put-together title. Beautifully realized world, sound work especially on point (which is really saying something considering BF's high bar), and every actor just spot-on.
Two quibbles: One: At times, the actor playing the President seemed to drift into sounding a bit like Tom Baker--a bit confusing when your attention has wandered for a few seconds! I know this isn't an issue with anybody's performance, it's just something I found to be maybe a bit more pronounced because of...
Two: I apologize, I really hate to talk about something being too long--god knows everybody deserves bang for their buck, particularly given the PHP price point--but I found that the length of this story detracted from it somewhat. If this were on TV, I might point to it as chewing the scenery at the expense of moving the story forward in a compelling manner. There were times I felt I would benefit from a flowchart of characters and what they had been up to in preceding episodes; and I'm sure some of this comes from the fact that I almost never have a solid 3h block of free time in which I can just sit and listen, uninterrupted.
Still, even having said those things, this is an excellent release. Top-shelf quality for sure.

Really enjoyed Elliot Chapman in this Yes I was really surprised when I got to the extras and learned how many different characters he ended up playing.

I got confused at times who was speaking, the president or the doctor ( mostly in the middle sections) I know why now, looked at the cast list and it's Jon Culshaw. He's playing his own part, it must be his voice and Tom's have a natural similarity. I like to play a little game with myself and not look at the cast right before I listen to something, and see if I can recognize voices. It is fun especially when the actors change their voices a lot. Lisa Bowerman shows up all over! Louise! Terry Malloy! Many other talented people. This was a great story and certainly had a lot going on in it. I listened to 1 hr per night. My favorite part was {Spoiler} Leela driving the flying car

Hello,
This post is for those that might wonder if this is just another story or if it is a "Story."
The Genesis Chamber is smart! It is smart as classic Doctor Who can be, but even more so, it tastes of something new.
The story is dense. This is what I want to bring to the forefront. If you just want a nice by the numbers epic sci-fi alien invasion story you have it.
Yet, that isn't what the story is about. The story is all about a study of various relationships: love, forbidden friends, aliens, aliens among aliens, family secrets, father and son, tale of two cities, eugenics, utopia/dystopia, ecology dependency, technological dependency, god...
Genesis is more then just a nod to a classic Doctor story, but a metaphor to a new creation story, with the Doctor involved in a new trinity playing old myths. The fallen. The wayward. The faithful. The deceiver. The creator. The...
Good stuff!
Except it isn't. Many of those concepts are introduced and nothing is done with them. Eugenics is a perfect example. People in the city make their babies to order. Yet other than the fact that they do this, nothing is said about it. Is it a good thing? Is it a bad thing? The settlers think it's bad, but it's never really explored. Everything in this story is like that, lots of interesting concepts with nothing really done to develop them. I agree, mostly, but I'd be fine with 4x4 parters and 1x2 parter. It's not that I don't like six parters. I do, but I'd rather have 5 stories instead of 4. Some of the 4DA's are good as 2 parters. Having only one per season would allow them to only use a story that really deserves two parts. The EDA's on the other hand, I think should have a six-parter every season. Also, I'd love for the 3DA's to be like the PHP and have a six-parter and a four-parter. Funny enough, I thought he sounded a lot like Michael Jayston. I pulled out the CD case as soon as I heard him to look at the cast list just to make sure that it wasn't him. The one thing that I'm surprised about that no one anywhere that I've seen has talked about is the Leela relationship. I don't know what's up with BF lately, but between this and Requiem for the Rocket Men I have to start wondering what BF is smoking. Both times it seemed like Leela's admirer had a case of unrequited love and then suddenly, inexplicably Leela somehow is in love with them. I have this weird feeling that people feel that since she fell for Andred that she'll just fall for anyone they consider a loser. Those people seem to forget that Andred was a professional warrior. Even though his screen presence wasn't great, you can at least see how this could be a partnership of equals. Dack was an inept hunter. I can't understand his attraction for Leela, but not hers back. It seems like someone who she'd take more of a big-siterly attitude to to teach him how to do things properly rather than someone she'd decide to "pair-bond" with after a few hours. Don't get me started on Inscape and the Deus ex Machina of it all. It's so obvious that the Doctor states it outright. The alien invasion was also one of the lamest ones ever. It's so pressing for them to exterminate the humans RIGHT. THIS. SECOND, but when they get up there they do some damage and then just decide that the humans can die out naturally over the next few months. The sound design is beautiful. The acting is fantastic, but this story is so full of plot holes and characters acting bizarrely that it's almost painful. I've summed it all up here here.

I'll have to listen to this one again. I started off loving it (a nice change from the 4DAs), but then I lost the plot about episode 3 and it took me awhile to get back into it (it was a definite mistake to try and listen to it all in one go). It's on the re-listen pile ...
Cheers

I enjoyed this story, but I will have to re-listen. With the length of the plot, I think I missed some details, but got the overall gist. I didn't have any trouble differentiating the characters' voice, as some said they did.
But in the beginning, listening in the car, it was hard to understand what was being said in the public speaker Inscape announcements.

Well, that was rather a good time. Sure some of it is messy & a little underdeveloped but it moves like a shot. And honestly, the longer & longer Tom Baker does these the more the years seem to have fallen away. Looking at the pictures in the booklet and listening to the voice on the recording and it becomes rather jarring.
