hmm, while I knew we'd get a fifth doctor sale this month, those are not the trilogies I was expecting.
have spent a while rejigging my 12 and 6 month sub plans and looks like I'll be getting most of the main range titles, even though I'll have to buy Night of the Stormcrow separately as a result.

Happy Birthday, Peter! Nice offerings from Big Finish - The Emerald Tiger and 1963: Fanfare for the Common Men are two of my favorites. I am really hoping they put the Space Race on sale for Colin's birthday. That's the only one from that trilogy I don't own. And I've been stubborn trying to wait to listen till I get all 3. This is strange for me to say since Colin is my favorite of the three, but Space Race is my lease favorite of the 1963 releases. I don't like it at all, while I think both of the other 2 stories were terrific.

Thankfully I didn't lose out by already owning Fanfare. It was just under £55 once the discount was taken into account when buying the other 7 stories and the set. Still not got a the earlier two trilogies with Nyssa, Tegan and Turlough so I might put those on the back burner and catch up with other stories I have to listen to. When you've got a backlog it is better to let these runs build up so you can listen to a good "season" worth of stories. I'm rather hoping I'm getting to the point now where I own enough Big Finish to have a few sales I won't need to bother with! It seems like every sale is something I need. I work on the idea that £5 for a main range story that I don't own is a must buy. This has meant looking at the stories I've bought in 2016 up to now is rather a lot. Including filling all remaining gaps in the 51-100 in the main range, buying all the Evelyn and Charley stories I didn't have and all the Lost stories aside from the Fourth Doctor set (which I got in a Fourth Doctor bundle last year). Sadly I don't think I will be given time off the Big Finish sales. Not unless they are self imposed. The days of Fly Me to The Moon being on offer for the billionth time with nothing else new are thankfully/sadly gone

Really torn as i want the two trilogies cuz I'm rather low on 5th doctor stuff right now, but I was eventually wanting to do some subs for the short trip bonuses. What should I do?

My wallet is happy that I don't have any holes to fill in Doctor Who releases. Some good titles available.
While I am not a fan of Adric, and was not impressed with how he was voiced in the box set, the stories are great and make it worth getting.

I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! I got The Emerald Tiger and The Jupiter Conjunction two weeks ago to finish off my Main Range collection, so of course they go on sale now. Ah, well, I can't be too mad; I like supporting Big Finish, and I won't bemoan them 16 bucks considering how many great deals there have been as of late (just the Dark Shadows sale alone!).
I am saving for a trip in the near future, but I decided to splurge just a little and nab a physical copy of Fanfare for the Common Men as I'm trying to start a collection of physical copies. (I'm very tempted to nab a physical copy of the Fifth Doctor Box Set as I adore that one, but I'm doing my best to be good...)
You know that story that everyone tells you is fantastic and you put it off until later, then listen to and realize it was as fantastic as everyone told you after all? That's Fanfare for the Common Men. It's one of those stories that just puts a big grin on my face every time I listen to it... Heck, the 1963 trilogy is fantastic, IMHO; three very different stories, but all are excellent in their own right.

It's a good mix of titles, and I have a soft spot for Emerald Tiger, though Fanfare is wonderful, as is Brisbane and Mercia. Everyone else has mentioned the boxset so I will just agree with them!

Listened to the Fifth Doctor Box Set recently and it's magnificent. Everyone involved is firing on all cylinders and it not only fits nicely in the TV stories continuity but actively improves it - especially the character work in Psychodrome. Highly recommended!

I have most of these, however I haven't heard great things about 'Butcher of Brisbain' or 'Lady of Mercia'. Worth checking out? I prefer the stories that focus on Nyssa, but I've got 'Prisoners of Fate'. Butcher is Great especially if your focused on Nyssa! {Spoiler} It Works best if you've seen Talons of Weng-Chiang before but its not crucial to do so
Lady is solid

Is the information in your spoiler tags really a spoiler? I ended up re-watching the related episode after I listened to Butcher of Brisbane. It helped me understand what was going on in the audio story better.

Not the biggest Davison fan on TV or audio but I was persuaded to pick up the boxset and Common Men.

Finally The Emerald Tiger is on sale! It's a perfect story for me and to get the CD is brilliant. That whole trilogy is great. The only real nitpick I have is that a certain figure in The Butcher of Brisbane (since he was in Talons of Weng-Chiang he had to show up here) isn't quite as suitable for audio as he was the TV screen.
The Fifth Doctor Box Set has been on sale a few times at this point. Wasn't it on sale last year for Peter Davison's birthday as well? At least this year some new stories have been discounted. If you enjoyed The Peterloo Massacre, check out The Lady of Mercia. It's another historical with Peter, Sarah and Janet that's written by Paul Magrs.

In this case spoiler tags aren't necessary. Butcher of Brisbane was always marketed as a sequel/prequel to Talons of Weng-Chiang (that's how it was pitched in the news item in DWM). Talons is clearly referred to in the synopsis, and the name Magnus Greel appears several times. Mr Sin even appears on the cover! References to Talons aren't as many as you would expect, and tend to be vague.

I know some people go in blind, no looking at the promotional material, reading cast and synopsis, seeing the cover, listening to the trailer, you know that sort of thing. But generally the majority of people I see here and have seen on the old forum use the marketing information to inform the decision of whether to buy the story or not. This is the news story announcing The Butcher of Brisbane (dated 13th January 2012), headlined "FIFTH FIGHTS MAGNUS GREEL". A week later the news story about the casting of Greel stated "TALONS PREQUEL" in the headline (link here). I'm sure that when Butcher of Brisbane was brought up in podcasts from that time the link to Talons was in there somewhere. Even the advert for the trilogy in DWM didn't hesitate to connect Talons to the audio.
