I've yet to see or hear any of Adric's stories, but I know of the character by the reputation he has in the fanbase...it certainly speaks wonders about BF's writing talent when people are clamouring for such a divisive character to return My clamour for him to return more speaks of me liking Adric. I always have, I wanted to be him when I was eight. And Matthew's performances in the Dark Shadows range are very popular so part of any clamour is down to that. Fair enough, no disrespect to Matthew or his fans was intended, sorry if it came across that way.

I was merely commenting on BF's talent for 'redeeming' and/or expanding on characters and companions from the TV series. Who knows in 10 years people may be campaigning for Handles to make a glorius return alongside Matt Smith

Oh I knew exactly what you meant - and, of course, you're quite right that that's true. People do have higher regard towards some characters in the audios than they did on TV. And some of the actors have a higher regard to their audio scripts than their TV ones. It's true in the Dark Shadows audios too, they've taken characters like Sabrina who weren't focused on in the TV show and given them starring roles. I bet the new Gan in Blakes 7 will get things to do that David Jackson would have loved to get to do on TV.

Matthew's schedule when he's in the UK might just not permit it, if last month's podcast discussing the future of the range is anything to go by (with a new companion revealed for the 2019 series). Who knows? Maybe we'll see Adric return in a special box release, perhaps set before Logopolis that ties into the events of that tale in some way? Maybe they could do a Adric box set or two, or move Tom Baker across to the main range for a few stories with Adric? I think The Fourth Doctor is probably going to stay where he is for sometime to come. Tom is iconic and it makes sense to have quite a lot of Fourth Doctor material out there. I was thinking more along the lines of accounting for Adric's reputation within fandom and that larger audience - we know Matthew's a great actor, but the legacy does persist. Relaunching the character in such a release might tap into that audience to see just how wonderful Matthew is an actor (which many people put his performance down as not being lead in hand as much as he could have been) and arguably the character, particularly not in the shadow of a more popular companion like Romana. Yes, there's been The Fifth Doctor box set, but there's still that division between Four and the other Doctor's releases and then go for other box set releases.

Do you think an adaptation of the Dark Dimension could work? I don't know who owns the rights to that story, but I'd like to see that happen.

Serious answer though - I want Adric audios. I've yet to see or hear any of Adric's stories, but I know of the character by the reputation he has in the fanbase...it certainly speaks wonders about BF's writing talent when people are clamouring for such a divisive character to return I quite like the idea of the larger than life 4th Doctor taking a younger male companion under his wing and acting as a teacher or father figure of sorts, there's very few male companions as it is, and since BF are creating a new companion for 4 anyway it could be a interesting dynamic to explore even if we don't hear more of Adric again... Definitely go and watch the Fourth Doctor TV story The Keeper of Traken. I'm of the firm opinion it's the best story for Adric as it taps into the teacher/student dynamic you mention and he isn't competing with other companions like Romana or Tegan for attention or screentime (Nyssa was initially going to be a guest character in Keeper of Traken before Sarah Sutton was asked to stay on as companion). It's also a well written and realised story in general, and it's hard to believe that it was only four years ago that the Melkur returned properly in any medium, and that was in a Sixth Doctor Lost Story (The Guardians of Prophecy, well worth checking out)!

That's funny, I've just watched the Blake's 7 episode Breakdown, the one where Gan is front and center. Big Finish can only go up for the character considering what David Jackson was asked to do for that.

Again - personally - I wouldn't do recasts. And would much prefer they didn't. But since they are doing so, we know they're going to give the character and actor something worthwhile.

They didn't in the first place. Plus Nick has outright said he has no interest. Reasons include it being a very visual story that would be difficult to adapt. I'm sure that it would have been great compared to Dimensions in Time (what wouldn't?), but with all the stories Big Finish are spoiling us with Dark Dimension would be all the poorer for the comparison.

I'll leave the story's synopsis here and a very brave attempt at recreating it here. Personally, I don't mind it. It has some flaws certainly and I would definitely have preferred that either the current Seventh Doctor or a new Eighth Doctor had assumed the primary role and that the cameoing Doctors were each carried along to the climax of the story, but it is head and shoulders above what we eventually got.

I know DiT is daft fluff but I have a soft spot for it. A mate of mine bought a trip to the recording in a charity auction and took me as his plus-one. We sat chatting to three Doctors and the Brig, we saw the recording of the Sixth Doctor and the Brig (a scene a little bit longer than the TV version - mostly of Colin running that he was a bit peeved never made it to the final cut after doing it several times), We saw the recording of the last scene with Sylv and Soph (which was at least twice as long as the TV version). We had a bacon butties breakfast at the Cutty Sark with Jon Pertwee, and I held his cue cards!

To be fair, so do the pickled heads of Bill Hartnell and Pat Troughton. Do you remember what you guys chatted about?

I vauguely recall watching a recent(ish) convention panel interview with Tom Baker in which he mentioned BF were looking as the extant material for The Dark Dimension and/or 'Doctor Who meets Scratchman' and figuring out if they could be reworked for audio.
But that may just be my memory playing tricks on me...

If I remember rightly, the other Doctors mostly talked about Tom Baker.

I'd say you really need a working knowledge of Eastenders to get half of what's going on. Which makes JNT being so proud of taking it to the US for conventions all the odder.
