So listening to the extras for Legacy of Death, Tom is ask what his reaction is the Day of The Doctor since this recording is happening "on the back" of it.
wow, just wow, that places the voice recording of Legacy of Death anywhere between May 2013 and I would estimate at most April 2014 (the range is large, because it's not clear if the question is about the recording or the broadcast).
Does this mean that BF have reached the point where from asking for a script to releases hitting download folders takes 3 years? That makes me chuckle, I wonder what Gary Russell in the early days of BF would have made of being told he had 3 years to get a story out the door?

I'm pretty sure that most releases have a buffer of about a year, but the FDAs are generally much longer. Given that we do hear plenty of "in the studio today" posts and they're not usually about things that are coming out in 2019 (but on the other hand the Fourth Doctor's new companion is said to be coming in to record soon and does start in 2019).

Going by recent podcast where Joe Smith (Production assistant) says that next years 4DAs were first recording sessions he attended I would say at least 2 years but I guess additional stuff like PHP The Genesis Chamber they do ASAP.
MRs 6 months to a year ( the Master trilogy and the 7th Doc Mel Ace trilogy was recorded late Summer early Autumn last year)
Boxsets 6 months or so Survivors 4 and UNIT 2 due in June (recorded December/January)

What a shame BF didn't get their act together and wasted last year in not getting ahead with their excellent Blake's 7 recordings too! In the light of yesterday's sad news, I can't help but resent them somewhat today.

In the light of yesterday's sad news, I can't help but resent them somewhat today. The health issues of Paul Darrow over the last year or so would obviously have been a serious block in the way of much Blakes 7 output. And I believe there were other issues. Trust me, Big Finish were not sitting about not doing anything because they were unorganised or in any way not putting in the effort.

From what I understand they recording as much Tom Baker stories as early as they can because Tom wanted there to be stories to listen to even after he was gone. (Which hopefully won't happen soon.)

I sometimes get the sense that Tom Baker thinks about his legacy a lot and recording way ahead may be an extension of that. It's been lovely having him at Big Finish and hopefully we'll have him for many many years to come.

The only reason they've recorded so much, is because Tom wont leave the studio lol. I kid, but you can tell he loves it and is making up for lost time. All hail the tiny talking Cabbage

Long live the King! I'm fairly certain that I followed links to convention talks from this or the old forum, and ended up jumping from youtube to youtube. Eventually, I came across Tom Baker remarking, sometime in early 2015, that he thinks they'd recorded "several years out" in his range at that point. Or was that "Tom at 80?" Either way, it sounds like there will be quite a lot of stories to listen to indeed. I have to admire his dedication and am incredibly glad that he's enjoying himself so much. I'm sure not going to be working past 80 if I can help it....

I think that it's really great that he is planning ahead so far in the future for his fans and legacy so there many more stories to come no matter his condition. Tom Baker (And the rest of The Doctors) are so dedicated to their work in Doctor Who.

While it's good to know he's doing so many so far ahead, I really don't think he has any need to worry about his "legacy". He's the greatest Doctor ever, with the greatest era of the show ever, and that will always be true.

If you look at the recording dates, Tom generally record stories about 1.5-2 years in advance.

I just try to imagine Gary Russell having Tom say yes to a script while he was running the show instead of Tom doing things like throwing BF scripts in the trash bin in front of convention crowds as he was reported to have done. I'm thrilled he has discovered a love for working for BF and even more thrilled he is working years but part of me really wishes he had seen the light several years before he did and we could have gotten a few series with Lis Sladen & Nick Courtney and maybe another year or two with Mary Tamm.

Every time I think about that, it kills me. But in the end we still got many great adventures with Sarah Jane and The Brigadier through the audios and now it's Tom's turn and I say Hooray!
