It is! I am of course really wishing it were several hours longer because then Blood & Fire would be out already. :-)

I've just finished the first story 'Trask the Exorcist' (Trasksorcist?), and it is excellent. Really very very good indeed. Already this new range of short stories is something I hope continues for a long, long time to come (and with writers actually comprising of members of the cast, I would hope it is a probability). Since the original audio readings became mini-full-cast stories within themselves, I'd forgotten how much I love to have a story read to me, and Jerry Lacy makes a terrific job of reading his own excellent story. 10/10 - loved it!

Short note, for my timelines, any indication of the years these take place, beyond the Quentin one?

Short note, for my timelines, any indication of the years these take place, beyond the Quentin one? The Behind the Scenes page on the BF site has rough placements, but not exact years.

Short note, for my timelines, any indication of the years these take place, beyond the Quentin one? I'm going to need them too. If I can't pin down a year, I use "c" with the year for "circa". Can't wait to hear them!

I started with The Missing Reel... leaving Trask for the last of course.
Glad you two are keeping track of the time placement... however loose that is for DS TOS.
Great job David... writers .. and production crew. Fun and engaging story... and the mention of our Eternal Actress! Thanks to one and all.

Note: Trace and I usually differ a bit on specifics. Same order (most of the time), different specific years.

I've been posting writeups in my listen-through thread, but so far I'm greatly enjoying these. Only through the Trask and Quentin ones thus far, looking forward to the Maggie entry after I'm done with my errands, and might even get to the Angelique one later today or perhaps tomorrow. Might save them for tomorrow anyway, as it's always nice to have some new Dark Shadows to go along with the morning coffee

Listened to about the first three minutes of Jerry Lacy's Trask story and decided it was excellent, but I still haven't decided what to do with these stories yet - anything from zealously tear right thought them all in honor of the anniversary, to only listening to one a month to help tide me over until Bloodline, comes to mind.

So, in brief: Trask ep: {Spoiler}Nice prefigure to the Rise & Fall of the House of Trask storyline. Quentin ep: {Spoiler}Quite good, and brutal, especially considering there's not actually anything supernatural in it beyond Quentin's long life. Maggie ep: {Spoiler}Is this the origin of the whispering cave? They use the same fx (I think) for the cacophony of spirits as they do for the voices in the cave in Bloodlust. Also, Maggie notes the sever dip in temperature when she enters the room with them, which also jives with the whispering cave. Angelique ep: {Spoiler}Jesus Christ Angey. What the fiddlesticks.

I'm going to pour some flippin' treacle over this, because 'Echoes of the Past' is just wonderful. There's so much to love about the second story (as there was with the first).
Dark Shadows fans are familiar with the frustrations caused by mass cuts being made to our favourite films before we get a chance to see them, and the earnest wish to get them reinstated in the original (horror fans in general have been gagging to see Bela Lugosi's test footage for the original Frankenstein monster that ultimately, and famously went to Boris Karloff 85 years ago!), so we can sympathise with the Woody Allen-esque film 'nerd' so brilliantly voiced by David Selby in this story. He wishes to find a lost scene from 'The Werewolf's Curse', but as Quentin himself knows, be careful what you wish for.
The only way I can describe these stories is 'pure' Dark Shadows. Simply, original DS cast members performing brilliant stories, brilliantly. What an actor Mr Selby is - he is never less that perfect here, just wonderful. And like the earlier Trask story, this hits all the right notes. I cannot say how much I love this, and again dare to hope that these single-narrator stories continue for a long time to come.
I'm saving 'Blood and Fire' for the next few days when I am not at work, as well as the last two 'Echoes...' stories. Truly, what an act to follow.

Angelique's astral possession trick in Confession explains how she used the squeaky bat to spy on Barnabas and Josette during the 1795 storyline. The idea of a balance even the Dark Lord has to maintain is fascinating.
Lunar Tides is great for the continuity easter eggs, from Barnabas's accent (British accents don't do anything for Maggie anymore) to creepy birds (The House of Despair). Takes place in the last week of May 1983.
The Missing Reel could apply to the missing Doctor Who episodes, where the anticipation can't overcome that what the object of interest is quite frankly rubbish.

Agree with the above concerning 'Lunar Tides' - some very nice light continuity references which don't get in the way of a really good story. I came to Dark Shadows very late - only about three years ago - but it quickly became obvious that KLS is completely adorable. She brings much of this to Maggie Evans.

I listened to them all today/tonight! Loved all four stories--and I agree. They feel very true to DS' format, dovetail nicely with the history of both the TV series AND the BF audios. Four original stories that add to the ongoing saga but happen on the fringes. All four readings are wonderful--and I was really impressed with the variety of the stories. Interesting too, how Trask's story is told in 3rd person, while the other three are 1st person accounts.
A perfect addition to the range, hitting all the right notes! I've updated my chronology and cast listing for all the recent stuff and will post the updated version in the appropriate thread.
Nice work, all--and four lovely postscripts after the full-cast perfection of Blood & Fire! Happy 50th, DS!! Happy 10th, DS on BF!!
