When does a lost story become an original story? If it was just a vague idea scribbled on the back of a fag packet never got close to production, and has been written wholesale by BF can it really be classed as lost? Alternatively we could take them in the spirit they are meant, a recreation of a past era, and just enjoy them warts and all.

To quote Nic's favourite story:
BIGON: You have not been told by Monarch? DOCTOR: No. BIGON: Then we must be silent on this.

When does a lost story become an original story? If it was just a vague idea scribbled on the back of a fag packet never got close to production, and has been written wholesale by BF can it really be classed as lost? I believe a few of the Lost Stories have been new stories based on old outlines but I'm not sure if any were in even lesser states than that.
Part of me says "if it was ever considered for production, it should count no matter what state it's in" but some of the Lost Stories produced don't meet that criteria - Fragile Yellow Arc of Fragrance was a spec script, for example. So who knows, really. Ultimately I like audio Who stories whether they're old, new, lost or whatever! The elevator pitches tend to be amalgamated into entirely new stories for the Main Range. The Rani Elite, for instance, shares its base premise with Network (i.e. the Rani assumes control of a university). The titular baddie's scheme in Davros isn't too far removed from the Master's in what would've been Mel's introduction story had things turned out differently (a bid to manipulate the stock market). Mind you, with the earlier reminisces about Return: I remember the space casino being John Lucarotti's contribution for Ark in Space, rather than Gerry Davis's for what would become Revenge. Given how similar the two settings are, it probably wouldn't be too difficult to pull what Nicholas Meyer did for The Wrath of Khan. Take ideas from each script and integrate them together into something rather interesting and distinctive. Sort of the writerly equivalent of a game of Telephone.

Somehow I think we’ll never get an adaptation of that ‘Son of Doctor Who’ story William Hartnell allegedly pitched back in the day. 😅

I think that's Chris Chapman, which would confirm Scorched Earth is by him. So only The Lovecraft Invasion we don't know the writer for on that trilogy.

Dorney's hair is looking particularly fluffy, and my receding hairline envies him.

So I guess we should look for a cast announcement some time this week.
