Excitedly today, I pre-ordered the Blu-ray 3 disc The Christmas Specials Gift Set for $49.59 CAD (£24) from Amazon.ca [$46.93 CAD for the 4 disc DVD edition]. 10 stories (11 episodes) + Ten Christmases bonus feature + Twelfth Doctor sonic screwdriver: - The Christmas Invasion
- The Runaway Bride
- Voyage of the Damned
- The Next Doctor
- The End of Time (Parts 1 & 2)
- A Christmas Carol
- The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe
- The Snowmen
- The Time of the Doctor
- Last Christmas
Yeah, I know, we all have these episodes on DVD already! My perceived value is: - Having all of these episodes in high definition Blu-ray format
- Having a more disc friendly assessable plastic hard case (rather than cardboard)
- Obtaining my first 12th Doctor sonic screwdriver
- And to view its new bonus feature
The UK equivalent edition The 10 Christmas Specials (£40.89) from Amazon.co.uk includes an accompanying booklet and 5 Christmas cards [£36 for the 4 disc DVD edition]. However, the $24.95 USD (WhoNA) Twelfth Doctor sonic screwdriver is not included. Is anyone else interested in buying this Christmas Specials disc set?

Basically Auntie Beeb likes to send out Daisy the cash cow at Christmas to milk fans into purchasing another re-released set with exclusive cards & booklet.
Save your money & don't purchase unless you don't own any of the above specials is my advice, so no i won't be purchasing this set.

The region 1 edition does seem to me to be better value. On top of the standalone release of Last Christmas and with the existence of this Christmas set, it's conceivable that last year's Twelfth Doctor Christmas special might not be included with the upcoming (and unannounced) The Complete Ninth Series DVD set? It will be interesting to see the eventual outcome…

That's basically why they put the Regeneration box out before the proper release of The Tenth Planet.

I could see the point if they were actually "special" but so many of the X-Mas eps are distinctly average at best. Some - Voyage Of The Damned and Widow/Wardrobe - are the nadir of Nu Who. But hey - Voyage has the highest ratings of any Nu-Who ep so maybe it has a following

I suspect it's due to the co-star, though I could be wrong. I was underwhelmed by Voyage of the Damned. The Witch, the Widow, and the Wardrobe was kind of a cute concept. The one with the airborne fish (the title is escaping me, the Scrooge/Xmas Carol one) was kind of silly.

It's maybe a little to do with Kylie but the show was growing so fast then regardless. 2008 would be a ratings behemoth, far and away bigger than any other Nu-Who year. It was the start of that epic yearin a way.
