In the latest Podcast Nick Briggs Mentioned that BF were planning on doing Doctor specific Subscriptions at some point
So 2 questions
1. Who wants them
2. How would they work, especially if you've got the back catalogue and BF offered the Super Sub last year, and with the record rate of new material, it could be up to a year at a time before you get anything,
Regards

I don't tend to subscribe to the Main Range (apart from the first 50), so I don't think this will affect me as I will subscribe if there is a trilogy that interests me (as per the latest Master trilogy) but I know some people have favourite Doctors and would like to collect by them.
Cheers
Tony

I think there are many people, especially new comers, and those facing the wall of back catalogue that will welcome the single Doctor subscriptions. There was a time when I really didn't like the idea of people picking on choosing as it could have undermined BF's then hand to mouth existence, but now, with BF's finances being less tight, the existence of BF's on going productions not under any immediate threat, it makes commercial sense to sell people exactly whatever it is they want.
As for how it works, I suspect it will work as subscriptions always have, if you order back catalogue you get it immediately, if you order future releases you get it when it's released. BF are quite happy to sell us stuff we won't see for several years, not sure these new subs will be any different.

I'm sure that there will be plenty of new comers and pick and mixers who will like this, but myself i will just do main range subs when i have the cash and space lol

I'd love a 10th Doctor one but I think it would get quite complicated with the number of ways volume one was released (if they kept that structure). Would they have all subs get the Limited Edition set? Would they give subscribers a choice between standard and limited? Would subs get the standard regardless?

These are Main Range Subs - it's highly doubtful that Tennant will be part of the MR. Instead they will concentrate on boxsets (like Four, Eight and probably any other new series doctor). Cheers Tony

A couple years ago, when I was trying to limit myself to only Seventh and Eighth Doctor releases, I would've loved a subscription like this. Now that I've 'succumbed,' this option would be no use to me

Heck, I'm having enough trouble finding space to store my 11 series of Benny releases, not to mention the early Gallifrey series and other releases that are CD only.

Your lucky then for the most part. Its jst for me I always prefer to have a physical copy of something. Like my love of Vinyl, CD's and Cassettes (Yes i still have those lol)

I still have some cassettes (audio and video), as well. But it's been ages since I've listened to them or watched them. And I have a large collection of vinyl music albums (except we called them records ) from years and years ago.

The more options that people have for buying Big Finish stories the better. I'd hate to just be getting in to Big Finish now, as the amount of Doctor Who stories available is massive. People can't buy everything, so picking and choosing specific Doctor releases makes sense to me. Of course, we all know that once hooked some of those people who started out by buying only one or two Doctor's stories are going to eventually want them all. So it's basically just a cunning plan by Nick & Co to create some more Big Finish addicts!

I'd rather they work out subs and bundles so if you already have an included release it skips over it and you don't pay for a release twice before moving to Doctor specific subs.

I really wanted this when I first was getting into Big Finish. I looked at the massive number of releases and immediately decided to restrict myself to only two Doctors, Four and Five. Four was easy to subscribe to, but to get Five's releases I was hunting and pecking (this was before the collected tabs on the website). I would have jumped all over a subscription to the first twelve Fifth Doctor releases. Eventually, I expanded (because of addiction) into Eight and then Six, and finally Seven. All of my subscriptions are regular now, but I still think Doctor specific subscriptions would make things easier and more enticing for newcomers.

Cheers Tony Perhaps, once Smith is on board, they can have a "Reboot MR" w/ 8,10,11. The downside to the box-set style, for me, is that they keep doing them as one hour individual episodes, and I generally prefer the 1.5-2h format. Though, I suppose it depends on how the box set is put together. I see Hurt's box sets as each being a single three hour episode split into one-hour parts; McGann's have similarly generally felt like four hour episodes split into one hour parts (especially DE1). That helps. If they intend on sticking to standalone episodes w/ tennant, I'd at least like to hear them try out some longer format stories. You can fit more in, plain and simple. (And a side note: the new series single parters are more like 43-45m running time, and feel even more compressed. I'm willing to bet that Tenant's first box set wouldn't have been as good if they had cut out 15m from each story to make it TV-length).

I kind of like the way the Main Range subs have worked. Forced me to try good stories I wouldn't necessarily have bought if I had been buying by which Doctor it was.

Surely the only way this would work would be for them to offer a "trilogy bundle"?
