Absolutely, often fandom is unable or unwilling to laugh at itself - though I think we see this in varying degrees.

Interesting question. I can't speak for anyone else, but me personally? Yup. I try not to, but with sci-fi it's often an uphill struggle to be taken seriously just to begin with, but what can you do? It's the BRIAN BLESSED level of PROCLAMATIONS AND SHOUTING that can put people off and make them a bit more reserved. My best guess is that it's all about balancing knowledge with levity and in wisdom knowing when humour is coming from a good, honest place and when it isn't. Fun. Whether cracking jokes or cracking theories, we just have to remember it's all in the name of having fun.

There are fans who take the show too seriously. For fans of a show that has thrived on change (had the concept of regeneration not been introduced the show would have ended back in '66), it's ironic they're often opposed to it and have a tendency to treat new Doctors, companions, showrunners etc with vitriol before they have just reason to judge. This isn't true of all fans, however for those to who it does apply tend to be more vocal about it.

Have you never seen a DC vs Marvel or Star Wars Vs Star Trek showdown lol.
Fandom takes itself far to seriously & I'm guilty as charged because I'm a fan.

I can handle people taking it seriously but I get more irritated when they're either sycophantic or know-it-alls.

Though nothing will ever, EVER, be as tedious as fans who hate the new series yet watch every episode just to have new things to moan about. I would imagine that after well over 100 eps...it's not going to be for them.

Though nothing will ever, EVER, be as tedious as fans who hate the new series yet watch every episode just to have new things to moan about. I would imagine that after well over 100 eps...it's not going to be for them. It's not just Doctor Who. If there's a long running show, odds are the comment board for a review of a recent episode will have some variation of "I can't believe it's still on" or "it's not as good as it used to be", especially for The Simpsons and Big Bang Theory. The magic number seems to be season five or six when this starts to happen. If you don't like it, don't watch it and don't waste your time going online to go to the review page to vent about it. That just registers as another click, which indicates to the site owner that someone is reading the review and encourages them to continue producing them! But with Doctor Who the haters have turned complaining about shows you don't like into an art form! For every New Who they complain about that's two episodes of Classic Who, which they profess to love, they aren't watching.
