Last night was The Rescuers Down Under for the Disneython. I forgot just how good the animation way. Ahh.. they end up in my country. I remember this movie from my mid-late teens.

Just watched the 1996 movie "Mikrokosmos", a French movie about insects living in a meadow. Notable because it features quite a few scenes with my beloved Messor barbarus (the species of harvester ants which I keep as pets). Very well made movie, lots of great macro shots and without any narration- the movie is carried by the music. The insects become characters in their own right, going about their daily business. It actually makes you feel for them, like that horrified look of that Messor soldier when the storm blows away her transported seed....

Watched 'Zone of Interest.' A funny feel-good family comedy about hard-working young man named Rudy as he tries to balance his work obligations with his family life in their new home.
Or, erm, maybe the exact opposite of that.
It was, uh... interesting. Not sure if I'd call it a good movie or not, but it was... powerful? I suppose? Quite grotesque, certainly. Ending definitely felt pretty weird to me, since the bulk of the movie occurs at the Hoess' home outside the camp, but then the final scene movies to some big Nazi HQ for a big meeting.... I did like the final scene of Hoess descending the stairs into darkness (not exactly the most subtle of metaphors, but an effective ending nonetheless) but the flash-forward interrupting it? Not really sure what that was supposed to convey (or whether it was meant to be diegetic).
Like... the bulk of the movie focuses on the banality and mundanity of the Hoess' family's daily life in such close proximity to some of the most horrific violence humanity has ever unleashed upon itself... and then the flash-forward shows us the modern-day Auschwitz Museum... and focuses on the cleaning crew, as they go about their own banal, mundane tasks cleaning the instruments of those horrors. So it kinda feels like the movie is drawing a comparison between the janitorial staff of THE holocaust museum with... Rudolph Hoess. Just what, exactly, is that juxtaposition supposed to communicate?

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Way, way, way behind everyone else but I finally got around to watching Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame this week (I’ve had a really horrible dose of flu and have been home all week).
I don’t normally get plot holes (or PLOTHOLES!!! as an unlamented former member of the forum used to call them) but when 2014 Thanos invaded Earth and made a play for the Infinity Stones 4 or 5 years before he was supposed to on his own personal timeline, I wondered that the entire cast didn’t dissolve before our very eyes. Then when Nebula shot and killed her own earlier self I knew I wasn’t going to really enjoy the rest of the film. I mean, I did but I just couldn’t resolve this sort of sloppiness with the basic principles of time travel (which doesn’t really exist, I know). But then I remembered that there was a 2-minute sequence of dialogue that pretty much shot down any ideas about time travel that I (as an audience member) might have had so they had clearly hung a hat on it previously, which made it easier.
A hell of a lot of fun aside from that, though.

A hell of a lot of fun aside from that, though. If you decide to continue on with the MCU the time travel in Endgame is supposed to open up the multiverse. It doesn't do it on it's on, but it's the jumping off point from which later entries build off of to create new timelines/universes.

It doesn't do it on it's on, but it's the jumping off point from which later entries build off of to create new timelines/universes. I’m giving it some thought: my jumping on point with Marvel was the Silver Surfer, round about the time of the Infinity Gauntlet so the Cosmic stuff is right in my wheelhouse. I’m finding, though, that the movies are doing what I really don’t especially like in the comics, which is becoming far too convoluted for casual viewers because of the sheer number of characters and situations we’ve been introduced to. They do a fabulous job of making them accessible but for the near-mythical “first-time” viewer it could be confusing. As an example, I didn’t watch Ant-Man or Captain Marvel, and found their inclusion in the story to be handled a little clumsily, despite knowing who they were. Having said that, I was one of maybe three people in the cinema who cheered at the Thanos reveal in the first Avengers movie, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Considering that most of the action happens in Sydney, they're not hard to spot!

LOLZ. In general Aussies can't fully do an American accent. English, yes.. But you can't hide the "Alf Flamin' Stewart!" accent.
(You won't get the reference but the English people on this forum will LOLZ)

Started on the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy. I have to admit to my shame that I have never before watched these movies. I just thought they were silly and not my type of humor.
Well, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
I just watched "Hot Fuzz" and that movie is absolutely AMAZING. It is very funny, totally my humor and extremely clever. It is also very well made, well paced and perfectly acted. Everyone gives their all.
I will continue with End of the World, since "Shaun of the Dead", I cannot stream here in Germany in the original English. I REFUSE to watch these movies in the dubbed German version (everything is dubbed in Germany). I already have ordered the DVD, though, so I can watch Shaun of the Dead next week.

Yesterday I watched "Tarot" a new release horror movie - nothing amazing however it killed 90 mins.
"The Strangers" another new release- it's a beat for beat remake of the original from over 10 years ago (the original was Much Better).

Just goes to show huh
Shaun is an awesome movie - surprisingly emotional. Note; the actress who plays his mother also portrayed the UK Prime Minister "Harriet Jones" in the 10th Dr era. (the actress also was knighted as a Dame too)
These movies are well thought out.
(fun fact Simon Pegg at 1 point pretty much lived in my home town of Adelaide - he was travelling around Oz and took a liking to the suburb of Glenelg which is Very near me and stayed for months!)

Well, it is my known pathological trait that I am very fast to judge what I might or might not like. I went on record saying "Doctor Who is cheap looking ridiculous bullsh*t" .
When I finally, years later, check out these things, I suddenly realize that the bullsh*t part was on my side and I actually like it.
I had the same thing going with the Austin Powers movies which I refused to watch at first. Turns out, these are also very clever.
Yeah, I noticed that most of these actors are very well known.
