Well without naming any websites, I've come across free PDF's etc of the Virgin/BBC books posted online, I absolutely don't agree with piracy so I wouldn't think about downloading them anyway, but for those desperate to read the books they'll always be a way round things legally or otherwise...
It's a shame the BBC dosen't negotiate with the authors to try and make e-book versions available for purchase...
And coffeeaddict is correct that the scans that do exist and are available for free are pretty bad copies with lots of errors. I've seen a few of them myself for the Virgin Doctor Who novels. None at all exist for the Bernice Summerfield novels. I've bought every Benny New Adventure through third party sellers and many of the Doctor Who Virgin books. But totally unable to find the out of print books that were produced by Big Finish for anything resembling a reasonable price, except on these spurious websites that ask for your credit card info upfront.
I have come across three of the New Adventures of Bernice Summerfield in PDF format over the years, never checked to see whether they are as poor in accuracy as the DW ones are.
Allow me to share a little trick when buying used books. Rather than going through ABE Books or Alibris to make the purchase, try contacting the seller directly, many of them will lower their price and give a better deal on shipping that way.
I had a couple of dealers toss in a free book of slightly lower quality (turned out to be acceptable by my standards) just because I was clearing out stuff that had been sitting for a while.
