With the 2nd Doctor Box Set released this week, Big Finish has no further releases shown on their website for the Companion Chronicles. Does anyone have any kind of inside scoop on whether they're quietly retiring the line or if we'll see more? If we will see more, any word on whether or not they'll keep the same release format or if they may relax the "one Doctor at a time" restriction?
Personally, I'd at least like to hear a few more from William Russell.

It was retired previously and then brought back for these current releases, I suspect it's a format that will be used as and when for a long time to come.

Given almost all the Doctors have ranges now, the CCs perhaps are felt as being a bit redundant, since concept aside, they were also a means for BF to get around Doctors they couldn't get back.

In a Big Finish portfolio that has both the Short Trips & Early Adventures ranges, I'm not completely sure how the Companion Chronicles fits in. And this is coming from a person who thinks some of the best stuff Big Finish has ever produced came out of the Companion Chronicles. Putting that to the side, I do seem to recall there being a period of silence after the 1st Doctor box set from last year that left some of us asking the same question that Dastari has. I do think Nucleusofswarm is also correct, so maybe we will get a 9th Doctor Companion Chronicle set eventually.

I think they could well have a ninth doctor boxset lined up, and are probably waiting to see how this sells before deciding whether to continue with the first and second doctor versions as well as new series, ir just switch to only doing new series companion chronicles.

A 3rd CC boxset would be 1st Doctor again, and with EA vol 3 coming out in the fall that may be considered double-dipping. So if there is a volume 3, and I am sure there will be, it likely won't be till at least 1st quarter 2017.

I've only heard a couple of the C.C's, so correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the majority normal Doctor Who stories, albeit told from the point of view of the Companion travelling with the Doctor at the time?
Because I was wondering now we have 3rd Dr/Early Adventures ranges for the first 3 Doctors whether there will be a move to reboot the C.C's i.e maybe a ourely comapnion lead range with some of the New Who companions such as A Mickey/Martha boxset.

I reckon a Ninth Doctor Companion Chronicle is probably what John Barrowman and Camille Coduri were recording. Wish they'd hurry up and announce that.

I do not believe the 2nd Doctor box set was announced at this point last year either. Personally I am sure there will be more. The question is will they continue to alternate between the first & second Doctor or will we get other Doctors.
The thing is while we get 1st and 2nd Doctor stories with Early Adventures they are only 4 stories every other year (and no just having a short trips story for that Doctor doesn't count). Even the Third Doctor now seems will have a more frequent schedule then that & the 1st & 2nd Doctor have more living cast members from that era.
I do like the idea of CC box sets for other Doctors. But I also like to know I am getting a release for One & Two every year not just short trips. So my feelings are a bit mixed.

Why call these last two boxes First Doctor Vol. 1 and Second Doctor Vol. 1 then? I mean, unless the sales figures were utter garbage, I expect there are plans for another two at least.

It may be that the next release will not be 1st or 2nd Doctor, but 9th.
It may be that the order of release isn't finalized.
But keep in mind that they're releasing one box set per year right now, and this year's just came out. So we have perhaps a year before the next release, which really is quite a long time if you're not a Timelord.

I do think Nucleusofswarm is also correct, so maybe we will get a 9th Doctor Companion Chronicle set eventually. Actually, as someone paying very close attention back then, I recall that the 2nd Doctor CC set was announced the same week that the 1st Doctor CC set was released. It was the trailer for the CC set that was VERY late, not being released until almost the week that the CD's themselves were released. All that being said, while I understand that they could use the CC format for the ninth Doctor for me that is very unsatisfying since I loathe the new series. I also don't find the CC's redundant since even with 3DA's and 4DA's and early Adventures going on we don't get many of those stories. Even with the later companions, it depends on who's showing up in the main range releases this year. So for instance, why not have a Leela CC while the current 4th Doctor season is with Romana and vice versa? Why not do a Mike Yates CC when the next 3DA box is just the Doctor and Jo? Doing a bunch of 5th/Adric/Nyssa/Tegan stories? Great, give Turlough a CC. If anything, I think limiting the boxes to a specific Doctor is the problem. If they'd just release a grab bag of four random stories with companions from any period then that would be better IMHO.

Might be nice to see two CC boxes a year - one with the Doctor not featuring in the EAs that year and one with either a specific theme or a different Doctor (ie. Four different Master stories with Mike Yates, Leela, Peri and Charley, four VNA era Seventh Doc stories, four Ninth Doctor stories, four stories set in the Industrial Revolution, four stories without the Doctor, etc.)

On the letters page in the latest Vortex David Richardson says the CCs "will be [note future tense] concentrating on the First and Second Doctors for now"

In some respects the Churchill boxsets are like a Companion Chronicles where the Doctor changes and the point of view character stays the same.

On the letters page in the latest Vortex David Richardson says the CCs "will be [note future tense] concentrating on the First and Second Doctors for now" Ah well, at least hopefully that means more Ian stories.

On the letters page in the latest Vortex David Richardson says the CCs "will be [note future tense] concentrating on the First and Second Doctors for now" Well, they wouldn't want to give away 9th Doctor Companion Chronicles if there were going to be some. They'd maybe even release them under a different name.

On the letters page in the latest Vortex David Richardson says the CCs "will be [note future tense] concentrating on the First and Second Doctors for now" Well, that could just mean that anything similar they do for the new series would go out under a different banner. The Lives and Times of Jack Harkness, the Story of Martha volume 1, etc. Edit: Dalekbuster523finish beat me to it.
