Hello again, Just take a moment to remember another fine comic writer. Caroline Aherne a brilliant observer of the minutiae of life has died. The Royle Family her finest hour written with Craig Cash. This domestic sitcom is a brilliant example of character driven writing. The Christmas specials are hilarious. acid-tongued OAP Mrs Merton was another highlight together with her array of characters on The Fast Show. Thanks for all the laughs, Scorchio.

She was a comedy genius, a tv sitcom were a family sit round a tv shouldn't work but Caroline & Craig added such warmth & believability to there characters it became one of the funniest shows n the BBC.
Caroline endured ill health & depression throughout her life but she still made people laugh & for that I'm eternally grateful.
Rest now Caroline, Earth just got a little less funny, while Heaven just got a lot more funnier.

Was very shocked when i heard this.
Noel Gallagher playing Half the World Away on stage when he heard the news was a great tribute.

I remember the first time I saw Mrs Merton. People remember her chat show but forget, she actually started in another chat show - Frank Sidebottom's Super Shed Show which was a cult hit and available on DVD from Network. She played Mrs Merton, Frank's moaning neighbour. Who knew she would end up making a side character a national treasure? Add on her work on The Fast Show and The Royle Family and you've got a terrific legacy.

That's them both gone far too soon. i never found, Royle family hilariously funny...but heart achingly true, nana was just like my nana. Even now nana' final episode "the Queen of Sheba" can reduce me to a blubbering wreak. so sad
