I'd like to hear a swap... The actor who played the companion and the one who played the doctor swap. Colin Baker plays Mel, a forty-something programmer from Pease Pottage. He is travelling with the Doctor, played by Bonnie Langford. Sylvester McCoy plays Ace, an aging rebel who never moved on from punk rock and leather jackets. At the end of the adventure, the Doctor regenerates into Sophie Aldred and Mel leaves the TARDIS to go off with Sabalom Glitz (Katy Manning). At some point we learn that this Doctor was once known as Susan Foreman but took on the identity of her unfortunate Grandfather, who perished on Skaro.

What if Cass allowed the Eighth Doctor to save her What if the Doctor didn't fight in the Time War What if the Daleks won the war What if the Doctor finally fought back... ....collapsing the time vortex when the Dalek fleet were amassed inside it ready to invade all of time and space. What if the Time Lord called the Doctor destroyed the ability to time travel. It's never a good sign when you quote yourself, but I had meant to say that the Eighth Doctor would use the Moment to collapse the time vortex....so who would play the sentient doomsday weapon?

Lucie or Charley maybe. Or even Alex Or - who I think it should have been in TDOTD in the first place - Susan. Good suggestions. Thank you. Susan would have been apt of TV, but I think her story in the Time War still needs to be told, perhaps she is the Doctors current companion, the person who has finally roused him to take direct action...which would then provide even more reason for the Moment to be Alex! Originally I did think it should be Lucie, but I am keen on the idea of the Dalek Lords (which is what the new Dalek elite call themselves having taken over Gallifrey) rescue her from her original fate and bringing her to the Doctor inside the time vortex to try to make him abandon his mission. Now I also had this mad image in my head, perhaps not the best for audio, of the casing of one of the Dalek Lords opening, the domed head section peeling back to form a Time Lord collar. The notch in the collar behind the head having originally been around the eye stalk. Now the question I am wrestling with is who should that occupant be? Any more suggestions?

Thank you very much to all, it is the first time I'm doing this and I am glad that many will like the idea. I was inspired by something I wrote long ago in the old forum:

Does that mean Peter Davison played Jurgen Tevanka, an Australian Airline Pilot? that Tom Baker was the legendary Steven-James Smith, who later got a spin-off series called the Steven-James adventures where he adopts a daughter named Lucy and has a computer in his attic named "Mrs. Smith" played by Sandi Tosvig?

Believe i or not, there was a proposed prompt for a "companion and Doctor switch" set of fics. It's here: who-at-50.dreamwidth.org/138381.html . I actually have written a few fics for that prompt, which I'll link, if anyone wants.

I actually have written a few fics for that prompt, which I'll link, if anyone wants. That's actually not far off what I said about Susan, surprisingly. I'm not a huge fan of the rather randomized names for the Doctor-companions though - I'd rather something like: Susan/The New First Doctor (Carole Ann Ford) & Grandfather/The Old First Doctor (William Hartnell) The Second Doctor (Anneke Wills) & Paul Wright (Patrick Troughton) The Third Doctor (Katy Manning) & Joe Grant (Jon Pertwee) The Fourth Doctor (Louise Jameson) & Leela (Tom Baker) The Fifth Doctor (Janet Fielding) & Teague Jovanka (Peter Davison) The Sixth Doctor (Bonnie Langford) & Melville "Mel" Bush (Colin Baker) The Seventh Doctor (Sophie Aldred) & Theodore "Ace" McShane (Sylvester McCoy) The Eighth Doctor (Daphne Ashbrook) & Dr. Greg Holloway (Paul McGann) The Ninth Doctor (Sheridan Smith or future War Doctor companion actor) The Tenth Doctor (Billie Piper) & Ross Tyler (Christopher Eccleston) The Eleventh Doctor (Freema Agyeman) & Donald Noble (David Tennant) The Twelfth Doctor (Catherine Tate) & Donald Noble (David Tennant) The Thirteenth Doctor (Karen Gillan) & Eamon Pond (Matt Smith)
But that's also 'cause I like when alternate universes have a clear breaking point, ie. "there was a different regeneration after the War Games" or "the Doctor never left Gallifrey" or in this case, "The Doctor died on his visit to Skaro/Marinus/France/the 2200s and so Susan took on his name." Although, you know, I'd be fine with one of the older classic ladies coming back as the Doctor for real on TV. Someone who doesn't look like their younger self anymore so they're able to be a new character. I think I mostly mean Anneke Wills, though. I just like her voice.

I can't see Anneke as a "cosmic hobo", she'd be a "cosmic fashionista". And I still think Tombo as Steven-James Smith opposite Lis Sladen as the Doctor.

Actually, this needs to happen. Somebody give Paul Magrs a ring. What if... A Dalek unaffected by his race's cruel mental conditioning steals a time ship from his homeworld of Skaro with a mobile hatchery and ends up traversing the ashen surface of a sterile world where the malicious and Machiavellian Time Lords quietly wait in their city plotting against the dissident Outlers?

The one I've always been curious to hear was what if he 10th Doctor had regenerated for real in Journey's End? Would we just get Smith's Doctor a little earlier, or someone else...

They were an odd pair, the gangly nameless teenager and the tall, heavyset man with his odd, timeless qualities. She stood in the Steven-James' garden and looked lost. He spoke up, eventually, "you'll need a name," his voice echoing in the cool of the night. "Why?" She asked. "All the most interesting people have names, and I just know you'll be the best," his simple confidence filled her with hope. "Now," he said, deep in thought, "Harriette? Alice?" He paused, and then with a smile that flashed in the darkness "No ... Lucy." He stood, and as in in benediction, placed his hands on her shoulders "Lucy Smith." "You mean...." she, trailed off, she didn't have the words to understand the emotions she was feeling at that moment. "Why not, ehh? I've always wanted a daughter. I've been across the universe you know. And I've seen and learnt so much," he looked up at the stars, perhaps a tear in his eyes "but I've also learnt that the simple human adventures, the lives we live every day, can be as much an adventure as anything with Daleks or Quarks."
