Here's a little what-if: instead of the show we know today, what if Who had gone down its original route of being about scientific troubleshooters from the future, with the Doctor being some kind of hippie time terrorist seeking an ideal past, as Webber mentioned in his draft of the characters?
What kind of show would that be, and would it have had any shot at long lasting appeal?

I dont think it would have been anywhere as successful as what the show actually became.
It probably would have been a series where only a couple of episodes would have survived

I dont think it would have been anywhere as successful as what the show actually became. It probably would have been a series where only a couple of episodes would have survived Quite possibly true. I think the only way that version of the show could have survived is if the Doctor eventually changed his ways and started stopping time meddlers instead of being one. Otherwise time either gets changed too much or the title character is constantly failing. But even then it's a much more narrow focus.
