For me it was The Night Of The Doctor, I was extremely impressed with McGann's performance as the 8th Doctor and rather curious who 'Charley, C'Rizz, Lucy. Tamsin and Molly' were, going online to see what the fan reaction was like I saw many references and recommendations about Big Finish, despite being from the UK I had never heard of them before, nor listened to an audio drama, but a while later I recorded a couple of the EDA's off BBC Radio and enjoyed them very much, about six months later I finally got round to buying my first BF audios, and two years later (and lots of £ sent BF's way since) here I am...

News item in DWM about BF starting Benny 1 month then then a news about getting the DW License in the next months issue. Then waited to Sirens was released in July 1999, saw it on sale at Longleat convention in cassette format. Found the Website couldn't subscribe, bought Phantasmagoria and Whispers of Terror at Birmingham NEC Collectmiana, DWM News item saying from Jan 2000 there would be monthly releases, went back on the website, could now subscribe and did, the rest is history. I will own just over 500 products by the end of the year possibly more if there are new unannounced releases due in the next few months.

I'd somehow come across a broadcast or rebroadcast which may or may not have been "official", but it was of the EDAs, as I later discovered. I'd remembered seeing the movie so I recognized McGann's voice (and, of course, the fact that someone was referring to him as "Doctor"). I'd also recently came across new Who on TV and started to get back into it for the first time since childhood. So I went hunting on Amazon to see if that's where one purchased this stuff and ended up buying a BBC aduiobook (Tennant reading) and one or two CDs. Deciding I liked them, I went to the website noted in the CD materials, Big Finish, and dived into the main range...

I know it all started with an obsession to hear Spare Parts and Jubilee, but I don't really remember how I first learned about Big Finish.

A friend on facebook posted something about Light at the End and all the doctors that would be in it. I found the website and the rest is history.

I found out about Big Finish from reading DWM. There was an article about Dark Eyes 1. I was interested but I didn't take the plunge until the announcement that Tom Baker would be returning to voice the Fourth Doctor. A few months later I bought and listened to my first Big Finish CD, The Energy of The Daleks starring Baker and Louise Jameson. I decided to follow up by checking out a release by one of my other favorite Doctors so I picked up Cobwebs because it looked interesting and had Nyssa, Tegan and Turlough together with Five. After that, I was hooked.

looking round comic shops and book shops and noticing the CDs
The ones that led me to try buying and listening were the 4DA in Waterstones (how could I resist Tom's smiling face?)

I think it was when the NuWho episode Dalek hit the air, and in reading online discussion of the history of the story that I first heard of BF. It wasn't until a few years later that I actually decided to try them out though.

Found Big Finish through it being mentioned by many of the T.V Shows Writers (Paul Cornell, Steven Moffat, Rob Shearman and RTD) and decided to take the plunge and as they say, the rest is history

Through a very convoluted Google search that led me from the Etra Prime Incident mentioned in Russell T. Davies's forward for the 2006 Annual to The Apocalypse Element on the Big Finish homepage. I think I discovered it roughly when The Raincloud Man was a new release, five years after watching some fortieth anniversary reruns of the Hartnell era classic series on the ABC. I wanted to see more Sixth Doctor stories and a Dalek invasion of Gallifrey, so the audio drama seemed like a match made in heaven. It was one of my first stories and remains a favourite to this very day.

I actually can't remember. I've known about them for quite awhile, since late 2000s maybe.
I always wanted to get in on it, but I knew I wasn't going to be able to pick-and-choose stories - I'd want everything. And with little kids and a not-so-little mortgage, my disposable income was at its low point. The other thing is, for the longest time I didn't have a credit card and never bought online.
Two things happened about two years ago.
1. I got a new job where I had no choice but to get a credit card because I'd be having to book regular travel. (The fact that it paid better didn't hurt either.) 2. I found out from someone's blog that the first 50 MR releases were permanently down to $3 each. Figured that would be the start of a digital collection, at least.
Proud member of Big Finish Nation ever since.

If it weren't for The Night of the Doctor I wouldn't be here either. If I ever meet Steven Moffat I should thank him for that.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

They'd been on my radar for several years before I listened to anything: it was the DWM giveaway of The Coup and Silver Lining that got me really aware of them, but I never bought anything else from them until Warship was released. Since then, however...
