And here I embark on my journey through the Dark Shadows audiobooks. I put this one on, really really hoping I would like it because I've already bought something like 15 of them as they've been coming on sale.
I thought it was fantastic. KLS has an enchanting voice, and the Sandman was eerie. Her 'Julia Hoffman' was dead-on in her mannerisms, almost full-cast worthy, with sinister undertones that called back well to that period of the show. It really fleshed out and added depth to the TV series without taking anything away.
I can see why this range took off, even for an audience not familiar with TV Dark Shadows.

It really does a great job of fleshing out what Maggie went through emotionally after her ordeal as a kidnap victim. Alec Newman's Sandman is a creepy figure, there's something almost Slenderman about him.

I wish we could get more of these types of stories, that take place during the original series timeline but occurred off-camera. They are fun and they help to flesh out existing storylines. I thought KLS and Alec were beautiful here.

I thought KLS and Alec were beautiful here. Echoes of Insanity is like that, during the storyline where Julia is attempting to cure Barnabas shortly after Willie is shot trying to warn Maggie. Maybe Robert Rodan can come back as Adam and give his story an end. I'm very surprised Roger Davis hasn't been in any audios since 2010/2011 (one scene from The Blind Painter was used in The Crimson Pearl), although I've heard he wasn't a nice person to be around for the other actors. I'm also surprised Chris Pennock hasn't reprised the role of Jeb Hawkes, which would give Carolyn a great story.

This is such a great story, and was my first BF Dark Shadows story too, as i was listening to them in the 'correct' places as i went through the TV series for the first time. KLS is always wonderful, the story has a lovely haunting feel to it, and the incidental music - as in 'The Ghost Watcher' (still probably my Number One favourite DS story) and the early full casts - is absolutely sublime.
This has made me want to listen to 'Clothes of Sand' again, actually - it's been a while.

A lot of the early releases like this did a good job of both filling in blanks for those that hadn't seen the show while at the same time weaving new stories.
Angelique's Descent, Clothes of Sand, The Path of Fate, The Wicked and the Dead, Echoes of Insanity, Final Judgement, The Doll House, they all have recaps of stuff while going off in interesting new directions at the same time.
I do wish BF would revisit this format every once in a while, and give a story for each of the major plot arcs that hasn't been touched upon from the original series yet.

I bet that the new short story anthology format will contain some of these, set within the OS timeline.

Final Judgement is sort of Rashemon IMO, with Josette and Angelique remembering the same period of time in different ways depending on their agenda at the trial. It'll be apt if you don't see it that way.

I think so too. And she's just as warm, and very charming, in person. Easy lady to talk to.

There's something about both of these--hauntingly beautiful...and I totally buy the chemistry between KLS and Alec Newman....the second tale is a gorgeous love story played out by two brilliant actors who "get" the material. And, maybe because these were the first dramatic readings (apart from the Angelique bio). They are special, and utterly unique.
