Alexandra Donnachie - Jackie Tate (and more) to you and me - has a show on this Friday, written by and starring Alex and her sister Kate.
www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/3-years-1-week-and-a-lemon-drizzle-tickets-25348206167
3 Years, 1 Week and a Lemon Drizzle is a story that weaves together Alexandra and Kate Donnachie’s memories of growing up, getting to know each other and managing their close bond when Alexandra developed a severe eating disorder as a teenager.
Earlier this year, Alexandra asked Kate - for the first time ever - what it was like for her when her sister was ill. They recorded their conversation so Alexandra could start cooking up ideas for this show – albeit before Kate had agreed to be in it!
Join us for the first public performance of 3 Years, 1 Week and a Lemon Drizzle on the 29th July 2016 at The Marylebone Theatre, Regent's University, London, 60 Paddington Street, W1U 4HZ (entrance opposite Carluccio's restaurant).
Tickets are PAY WHAT YOU CAN - anything is appreciated!
There will be a short Q&A with Alexandra and Kate after the performance to discuss the show and the process of making it and will be an opportunity to offer any feedback you might have! The Q&A will be recorded as part of a series of podcasts we've been making to document the process of making 3 Years, 1 Week and a Lemon Drizzle.
Follow the making of the show at: www.tumblr.com/blog/threeonelemondrizzle

Afraid it would be a bit too much of a commute but I seriously wish I could attend. It's blatantly obvious from her Dark Shadows work what a talented lady she is. This event couldn't help but be worthwhile.

Alex and Kate are putting the show on again in Clapham on Wed 26 July - and there will be audience support from some of the Dark Shadows audio cast and crew. (It's described as an Edinburgh Preview show so it looks like there'll be opportunity to see it up there too.) omnibus-clapham.org/event/edinburgh-preview-3-years-1-week-and-a-lemon-drizzle/£9 | £7 concessions 3 Years, 1 Week and a Lemon Drizzle pieces together a number of Alexandra and Kate Donnachie’s sometimes heart breaking and often hilarious memories of growing up together and managing their close bond when older sister, Alex, developed a severe eating disorder as a teenager. When Alex (finally) decided to ask Kate what ‘that time’ was like for her, she immediately began cooking up ideas for this autobiographical show – albeit before Kate agreed to be in it. 3 Years, 1 Week and a Lemon Drizzle is a performance that recalls on touching memories, shares laugh-out-loud anecdotes and mashes Mars bars up, to bring to stage a story about living with a loved one and their mental illness.

If you get the chance to see this show, grab it with both hands. Insightful, warm, funny, moving, unsettling, and so very well performed. It also has an element of improv within the structure which should keep it fresh and different. It also features the perfect actress to play Jackie Tate if they ever decide they want a version who is just over three years younger than the current version.
