Met him many years ago, he was staying at a hotel across the road from where I lived, I was perhaps aged 12 at the time and I didn't believe him when he told me he was R2D2, but he gave me a signed photo anyway, it was years later I learned the truth.

Sad to hear this. He used to come to the Golf Club my Brother-in-law ran the catering for and he seemed to be a genuinely nice guy. He signed my boy's DVD while sat at the bar . Thanks Kenny and R2 (Bleep! Bleep!) Tony

The way you know you are getting older..more of your favorites from childhood pass away.
May he rest in peace and condolences to his loved ones. I am sorry I never met him. Sounds like he was a wonderful person to meet.

Like most people in the UK who have been even casual con go-ers, I've met Kenny. Only once but it was a lovely moment and I got to tell him how terrifying Time Bandits was that, even at that point I met him, it still terrified me. He shared a couple of quick anecdotes about it and was a real gent. I also met Dave Prowse/Vader that day and I remember they chatted quite a lot and obviously had become good friends over the years on the circuit.
A sad loss for sure, but 83 years is a good innings. He spent much of it knowing how much his work had been loved.

Absolutely gutted hearing Kenny Baker has died, he brought the character of R2D2 to life & made a 7 yr old me believe a robot had a soul.
My parents met him once & shared a coffee with him at a motorway service station & let my dad checkout his car.
R.I.P Kenny & thank you for making my childhood just that bit more enjoyable.
