And as I said elsewhere the same with the early Benny's.

Yep. I don't know if it is a "rights" issue or a "policy" issue now... Cheers Tony The Destiny of the Doctor CDs bought from the Big Finish website originally did not include their matching story downloads, but NOW do. Perhaps after a certain amount of contractual time has past, this will also apply to the CD purchases of Luther Arkwright eventually including its equivalent story digital. The Big Finish Luther Arkwright news release does say that the download wouldn't be included with the CDs "at this time". If I was the talent that signed off on allowing Luther Arkwright to go digital, I would have been more motivated to do so knowing that I could make increased royalties for a protected time frame on its separate only bought downloads.

It's nothing like Doctor Who and is a one off. It's great fun and very comic book in some ways. I held off for years, but when I got it was impressed. I can't see it leading to any other ranges It's a one-off but doesn't have to be - Bryan Talbot did a sequel to the original comic series which was called Heart of Empire. I'd be quite pleased if it was adapted too... But for those who haven't purchased this already, it may very well be a one-off forever, and it's a good'un.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I really enjoyed it: it's a totally different story to Doctor Who and to just about anything else I've heard via Big Finish with some big ideas and flourishes. Heaps of fun.

I also enjoyed it very much. Definitely worth the price they're asking for it.

At the Regeneration Who convention back in March, Jason Haigh-Ellery said that he contacted Tennant about doing an Arkwright sequel just recently. Jason seems really keen to do it but it's a matter of getting Tennant when his schedule is free.

I think the reason that no free download is given, will be contractual and probably to do with the licence, most likely both a download and a cd royalties will need to be paid as separate items, so if they give one away it would need to be paid twice. considering that download were not a thing when it was originally made, I find I a bit surprising that they have bothered renegotiating the licence, I don't think It sold that well upon release. but maybe it's more about going forward once the CD stock sells out.

It also being a pet project of the Big Finish owner, probably has a lot to do with it now becoming digitally available. I wonder why, The Maltese Penguin and Return of the Daleks (the most recent examples before Arkwright went digital) included the complimentary digital with the past and present purchase of their CDs? Could it be that it had something to do with Paul Spragg's fan friendly intercession? The "larger cast" of The Adventures Luther Arkwright would presumably be more difficult to clear for downloads than the smaller casts of the Benny audios? The Gallifrey performer casts on average do seem to be roughly the same size as Arkwright's.

There's only the free download with CD purchase thing to do, which only involves the original writer.

It may be some kind of more complicated reason involving publishers and existing conditions that doesn't make it as easy as we assume it is. In the case of Luthor Arkwright the download has been cleared and made available for commercial release so everyone involved who can give their okay has done so. It's just the pairing of download to CD that needs to be dealt with.

Okay 30 mins into this and I hate to say this but I am totally lost and not enjoying this at all. So now I am wondering if it just doesn't appeal to me (because a bunch of you have said you enjoyed it) or if it's one of those cases where I should stick with it because it gets better?
I don't like to quit on something I spent money on but well it was on sale & I think if it's not a case where it will get better & it's just my own tastes don't agree with this I might as well switch to something I'm going to enjoy more.
edit: Well finished the 1st part of this (I assume it's the 1st part since the music started playing) and still do not feel engaged at all. I just have to assume this is one of the few Big Finish stories just not for me. I honestly can't even say what I don't like about it, I have no clue what is going on and don't know who anyone is. I just feel apathetic about it. Ah well!

I had to listen twice to really get the story, and I also looked up some information about the original story it was based on before listening the second time. I thought it was a good story.

Perhaps I'll give it another try in the future but after an hour I think it's just not for me and should move onto something I enjoy more.

I wasn't sure about this until I found out it was originally by Brian Talbot. I read his Alice in Sunderland from the library and it was really interesting and different. I bought the CD a while ago and I'm reading the graphic novel first. It's good but a bit confusing, since being an American I don't know about British history in as much detail. Sometimes this happens with Doctor Who stories too so I get to look it up and learn more about it. (Never mind it's alternate histories as well).
Plus the way the character is drawn his face reminds me of Bowie's, so that is the voice I hear in my head, it will take some getting used to hearing David Tennant's voice.

I really enjoyed this release. I didn't find that having no prior experience with the comic was an issue.
Here's hoping BF makes a sequel at some point.
