An interesting new development: the Main Range has a new subscription system! You can now make "Retrospective" or "Pre-Order" CD subscriptions, the difference being (from the website):
"The PRE-ORDER subscriptions enable you to buy stories not yet released, which will be sent as soon as they are released. The RETROSPECTIVE subscriptions enable you to bulk-buy a number of stories which have already been released. These will be sent in a postage-saving single package as soon as possible after purchase."
Basically this means that Retro subs are equivalent to bundles, with decreased shipping costs due to the single package being sent; the Pre-Order subs include the new individual CD shipping costs and are thus now considerably more expensive (at the moment, Retro subs are AUS$259.30 and Pre-Order subs are AUS$332.88)
Additionally, there are now new limits to subscriptions: at present, a 12 story Retro sub can only be made with stories 204. Criss Cross and earlier, while Pre-Order subs can only choose 215. Maker of Demons and later. Any stories in the middle can only be accessed via 6 story Retro subs, as you can no longer make subscriptions that include both already available titles AND titles yet to be released...

as you can no longer make subscriptions that include both already available titles AND titles yet to be released... That's a nasty oversight, and would have greatly annoyed me back when I working through the ranges to catch up.

There seems to be no forewarning on this kind of thing. When there should be as it does effect their valued customers

What are BF doing 2 major buying policy changes in 2 days and no general news announcement? Well technically it's all part of the same thing really, as it's the new per order charge that has led to a change in the subscription options. Although I agree, an official news announcement regarding the new charge - and how it also affects subscriptions - would have been helpful to international customers who buy their CDs from Big Finish.

Yes Mark, I am a Doctor Who Main Range CD subscriber - downloads for everything else though - so this new per order charge will affect my future purchasing options of Main Range CDs. Especially when it's tme to renew my CD subscription. But I know Big Finish wouldn't have increased their customers costs like that if they didn't have to, so annoying as the new charge is, I'll just have to deal with it if I want to buy CDs direct from BF... or I can choose to buy my CDs from elsewhere. That's life!

That's life! I'm in the process of trying to figure out what I'm going to do. $ 170 and change for the sub and $80 and change on top of that for shipping is quite a jump. Maybe do a six month sub instead while things remain tight and jump on a year sub when things are better. All I lose would be the free disc and I'm at the point where I have pretty much everything I am interested in that they have released. Eh.

This way this is being done is going to be very confusing for some people - especially newcomers to Big Finish, who, previously, Big Finish have made an obvious effort to be very mindful of.
For example - a buyer picks a CD, and clicks on the subscription option. The dropdown offers BOTH options (retrospective & pre-order) even though I cannot see how this can be a genuine choice (for any given release either one or the other must be incompatible and the order therefore invalid). Can they be certain they've understood why they've been offered these options (which for UK buyers are at the same price) before they choose one and reject the others? After all, why would you be offered something you are not permitted to choose?
I can see BF have a problem with postage costs that they need to solve, but I hope they don't put people off with this additional layer of complexity.
