Hey everyone,
Who is your favourite new Bloodlust character?

That's a tough one - has to be Rhonda, Jackie or Tom though, ahead of Harry and Cody by a nose.

The first one that comes to mind is Kate Ripperton. Although she's in Beyond the Grave, I didn't attach to her until Bloodlust. If I have to pick someone completely new, I'd pick Rhonda or Cody. Honestly, I was so happy that Bloodlust fleshed out some wonderful new characters and brought in characters from across the original series but also characters just from the audios. After now over 50 audios, there is plenty of it's own history for Big Finish to cleverly weave into the new stories alongside the original series adventures.

Oh, they're all great. All the kids, and Rhonda, and Melody the plucky heroine.
But... I'd have to choose Tom Cunningham. He makes me beam.

It's Rhonda for me, but the whole new cast were spot on. It was telling when there were episodes comprised of almost all new-characters there were no complaints about the classic DS tv characters being sidelined. The characters and the story were just that compelling.

Harry was my favorite. Granted all the characters were new to me when I listened. The only character I sort of remembered from Dark Shadows was Barnabas.

Hmmmm.... tough one; for me most of them were new so picking just one out seems wrong, as I thought all of the cast of Bloodlust were brilliant. It was just a great story with great characters, some old and some new. I also loved the way Bloodlust was released too.
When is the sequel out by the way? Don't remember seeing much about Bloodline for a while.

Loved them all--but it's gotta be Andrew Cunningham for me! Matthew is just too damned good!

Rhonda Tate. She is a woman in what was a man's world without too much opposition, mainly the guy with a grudge. If she looks anything like her voice actress, it's even more impressive!
While everyone else is losing their heads she's trying to solve the mystery (for a good while she's the only one trying to solve it instead of scapegoating the supernatural), coming off as far more competent than the Collinsport law enforcement ever seemed during the original series. When confronted with the supernatural, she doesn't try to ignore it, just focuses on what she's able to do and plays a key role in knocking down Petofi's defenses. When challenged, she is able to remain civil for far longer than I would have. And she's a single mother who has raised a pretty good teenage daughter, no mean feat considering they live in Collinsport, where David is guilty of at least three attempts at patricide and a young Amy Jennings was partly responsible for the death of a particularly hammy medium.

I've heard both Matthew's bite-sized story readings now, Tracy, one in the studio as he recorded and the other as the final mix. You are going to love his performances.

I think Rhonda is brilliant, as a person, a woman and a mom. She's a fairly terrible sheriff though.

To be fair, the only cases we know she's been investigating have been the Disappearance of Susan Griffin and the Bloodlust Affair. With the former, the only ones still around who knew anything about it were possessed by Petofi (David), hiding in a cave (Angelique, Isaiah Trask) or soon leading what would become a vigilante group (Maggie, Ed). As for the Bloodlust Affair, it was a conspiracy led by an inside man mimicking supernatural attacks to stir up anger. Compared to previous Sheriffs, Rhonda was hyper-competent, looking for leads and following them up to make connections that would have eluded Patterson. Even being impeached didn't stop her from investigating and once she knew what she was up against she played an important part. Tranquilizing possessed Carolyn while quipping is pretty cool. She didn't even get hit with amnesia!

My favourite bit is when she needs an overheard throwaway line from Jackie to remind her of standard police procedure (and basic common sense).

I forgot Rhonda's touching relationship with Isaiah. It's really sweet how she looks out for him and doesn't pass judgement on him, especially when everyone else seems to have labeled him as the town drunk (when you used to work for the gatekeeper of hell you'd be driven to drink!) and later a collaborator for giving Angelique any respect. Out of all the Bloodlust characters, Isaiah is the biggest Woobie, and Angelique wanting to give him a decent send-off really shows you how the perceived monsters are more civilised than the normal people at this point.

What I loved about Bloodlust is that NOT ONE of the characters is one-note! Every single one of them (original tv cast and audio cast) blur the lines between black and white. All very 'shades of grey'. And if anyone can name one character here that is all good or all bad I can counter. All the baddies have at least one redeeming motivation or quality. All the good ones show their flaws. It's what always made DS so accessible. It's just not as simple as black hats vs. white hats.

Which reinforces the message Bloodlust is presenting, that despite how easy it is to say someone is good or bad because of what they are doesn't mean it's all that simple. You can even understand the motivations of the bad guy even if you don't like what they do. I'd say that the least developed character is Cody's father, Dr Hill, if only because he only really appears in hospital scenes largely for exposition purposes.

If Ben Franklin (love that name!) was new, then him; if not, I add to the chorus of Rhonda's.
