It reminded me of Primeval a lot in that we have a team of people assembled to deal with extraordinary situations using largely improvised weapons and strategies. That's a good sign for me then. Loved Primeval. I'm not sure whether to watch it on BBC3 Online or not. I kind of hoped it would be broadcast on BBC1 the Monday after BBC3 Online transmission. Honestly, with the effects being a tad sub-Who, I think the show would look as good on a laptop or tablet than on a big living room telly anyway so I don't think you're losing much by not watching the I-Player version. Though Blair Mowat's score was quite wonderful so make sure the audio on whatever you do watch on is good. He incorporated a couple of Murray Gold motif's for the sections with The Doctor and the TARDIS rescue but his own compositions were very, very strong.

Wow, I've only seen episode 1 so far but I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't sure whether I'd like it but I'd say this is the best televised Doctor Who content since Miracle Day (admittedly, that doesn't sound like a compliment, but I did really like it, so) and... for the first time I actually liked the way Capaldi's Doctor was written, although I think it could have done with The Doctor being in it less - honestly the flashback that just showed the TARDIS would have been perfect for me.

Watched the first episode... so, we've got the whole Skye-is-an-alien-hiding-from-baddies-disguised-as-a-child plot from "Sarah Jane Adventures", the controversial the-gay-character-must-be-the-weirdo-alien-whoc-doesn't-relate-to-normal-life idea from.. yes... the "Sarah Jane Adventures... the Doctor allowing a bunch of teenagers in charge of invading monsters with only a single adult in charge of them... yes, "Sarah Jane Adventures" again... except some of them are horrible and there's lots of gore. Oh, and what I have a nasty suspicion was meant to be a "Harry Potter" pastiche to drag in that audience.
I mean, it wasn't bad, and it clearly isn't aimed at me, but I just couldn't shake off the feeling that it was all over-familiar. (Can't say I liked Capaldi's cameo, though. Good dialogue but he didn't seem to handle it well. You can't just get through a scene by pointing a sonic screwdriver at everything).

Episode 2, I must say, was tons better. However, that was more down to how good I think Ram was written and played. I also liked the ideas thrown and the idea of the Ofsted Inspector. On the whole, it was far more to my tastes and almost felt like something that you'd see in the RTD era.

I was just going to watch the first ten minutes of episode one then wait for it to air on BBC1 but I got hooked. I ended up watching it all. Class seems like a hugely addictive show to me; it didn't really need Peter Capaldi's cameo as the Doctor.

The title sequence is cool. Very modern but with swatches of influences from the Who ones. Think there's a glimpse of the time vortex! I personally thought it was incredibly cringey and badly made. I thought that long title sequences weren't big anymore, that it was more of a quick look at the logo with a music sting.

The writing is consistent with Patrick Ness's previous YA venture, The Rest of Us Just Live Here, but in a good way. There's a self-awareness of the genre (the Bechdel test line for example) but a deep examination of issues that teenagers would face, only in less fantastical situations. Ram has to deal with the death of his girlfriend and cope with having a prosthetic leg. Miss Quill is delightful, the sarcastic mentor who only gets involved when her neck is on the line.
Loads of easter eggs in terms of trivia. The reference to Susan and the June Hudson (costume designer on Doctor Who in the late 70's/early 80's) for example.

I really enjoyed the 1st episode. Thought it was really thought out and was very well written. Can't Wait for the rest!

ok....i should say first that i think i will continue to watch the rest of the series...but it was bitterly disappointing
why oh why in 2016, do we still have to make a point of ticking the race & disabled demographic boxes and hammer it home with crappy writing.....we don't care if they are green, pink or blue, we are doctor who fans credit us with some intelligence.
now i know i am not the target age for the audience at 40+, but who is it felt so young.....now i like much of the stuff CBBC does Eve, wizards & aliens, wolf hall, SJA, hell they have even done a dam fine job of updating dangermouse, but this felt that they were aiming it at pre-teens with the writing. certainly not BBC3 Drama standard of being human, fades, torchwood etc.....the teens on screen did not act or talk like any of the teens i know!
the doctor showing up felt forced & pointless, the stories were lame and the acting especially by the "aliens" was just downright poor.
it just felt like a show that had been made 10 years ago and shelved. I know the BBC is strapped for cash, but this looked and felt cheap.
that said i did like the 3 "human" leads, and felt they did a good job with what actually was a piss poor script. no a great start but maybe it's not without redemption.

So I liked the diversity, but thought it was skin deep. In personality these kids were all typical Canadians. Whoops, maybe that's part of the problem, they just didn't feel like brits, this was glee meets aliens.
Much of it did feel focused on a younger audience than I was expecting but the level of violence was higher than the tweeness of some of the rest would suggest.
Having said that I mostly really enjoyed it. I was absolutely loving it till the Doctor turned up and everything stopped. The tension suddenly dropped to nil.
Looking forward to the rest, especially since the Doctor won't be in them.

I have no problem with the diversity, just the terrible writing to point it out. i know Patrick ness is a respected novel writer, I even read monster calls or something like that. but he cannot write dialogue for toffee, they talk in explanations or questions, where's the sicks, you know what I means, smashed it or what ever current word has been reapropriated to bemuse us oldies. it never felt real. I can forgive the stereotypes just speak normal! Grrrrr glad you to felt the youngness, it feels like the gore & violence has been added to a kids TV script. as I said it's not all bad, but when you see how well the kids were used in shows like stranger things, I had expected much much better.

Only watched Episode 1. It had some redeeming qualities (got better in act 3 when the Doctor showed up on the scene, and there was some surprise gore), but it mostly felt kind of manic and tone-death. It just didn't really make me feel anything, and the dialogue came off pretty awkward. Not really in a hurry to watch Ep2.

I may get around to watching it - seems it isn't on the Space site for viewing yet. Have to see if my work around for watching iPlayer in Canada still works.

Lol. I've got Canadian family, so have no problems with Canadians, but these are supposed to be British kids, i.e nowhere near as clean cut as these kids.

I'm going to need to view some more episodes of Class before deciding whether or not; I truly enjoy it as worthwhile entertainment. I'll most likely base its merit value on its entire 8 episode first season. As for its first 2 episodes, I probably enjoyed the first one a little more than the second story. The Doctor's guest star involvement within the first episode wasn't as magical as I would have liked it to be, it seemed very slap-bang and done. I would have preferred a "slower beginner's introduction" as to who the Doctor is when being placed amongst a fresh group of adventurers on a premiering show. Roll on Nightvisiting.

We just got to see this over here. It had some good and bad. Loving Miss Quill, she's the best part of the whole show. Yes, the writing needs to get better. And I really wanted to SEE the story of the Shadowkin and the planet that Quill and The Prince come from (See, I can't even remember any of their names.) instead of it all being exposition. dI think that as a Doctor Who story would have been a better intro to the characters. (I can actually hear it in my head as a BF story rather than a TV story. Isn't that something?)

I watched the first ep but I was completely bored, especially after last nights Doctor Who which filled me with a sense of wonder. This I am Sorry to say just filled me with a sense of apathy.
I still think BBC America made a huge mistake waiting to air this until after Doctor Who. At least when Who wasn't on it would have been something semi Doctor Who related to wet our appetites until more Doctor Who was back on TV. Now I can't really muster any enthusiasm for it. Not to mention It's on late (yes 10 is late for me) and I just don't think it's worth staying up for.
