I found this book particularly bad when reading it. Mainly because of how unnecessarily complex it tried to be, but I can see some things people may enjoy with the novel. The Quoth do make a good alien and the ideas are good. So I want to hear your opinions.

I like it, but there's too much going on:
Psi Powers Arc Reference to events of "Cold Fusion", which at time of publication wasn't out yet Ace "Murders in the Rue Morgue", Poirot, Moriarty, "The King in Yellow" The Dreyfus Case Prefiguring the TVM

I agree with Fitzoliver. Too many ingredients going in too many directions. At least with his Eighth Doctor novels Lawrence Miles had them all contribute toward the same aim. You could argue at this point that the books were being written for long term readers, if Happy Endings is anything to go by, but without a working knowledge of the loosely defined Psi Powers arc it's difficult to comprehend Death of Art. It doesn't help the plot is very dense.

It doesn't help the plot is very dense. As I recall, many readers didn't even realise it was Based On A True Story.

I genuinely don't remember The Death of Art. I remember reading it... Word for word... But I cannot for the life of me recollect anything other than it was set in Paris, the words "Shadow Directory" and the line -- "Hello, I'm the Doctor and this is my friend, your son. We need to talk."
