Hey everyone,
I thought this might be an intresting topic: revival stories under the budget (and narrative form) of the original series.

I know one that lends itself to the format almost immediately. "Turn Left", "The Stolen Earth" and "Journey's End" are perfect for a traditional six-parter in the style of something like The Seeds of Doom. Considering it has a very similar vibe to The Five Doctors, I wonder if it could've been done in that celebratory 1983 anniversary season with the Fifth Doctor and several returning companions? You could've had the retired Brigadier and Liz Shaw leading the charge with UNIT in lieu of Torchwood, Sarah Jane and K9 dealing with Dalek assault teams out in the country, Ian and Barbara trying to make their run across London, etc. You could even have had Nyssa, Jamie and/or Zoe return if you tied Davros's return into what happens in Resurrection of the Daleks. I wonder if they would have been able to pull off the same sense of scale or would it have been something closer to Survivors, where we're getting to the story after it's all over?
The Crimson Horror could have been right at home as a Third/Jo pseudo-Avengers story and might have even benefited from the expanded runtime of a four-parter.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

Aliens Of London/ World War 3 would have been a good 3/ UNIT story with only a little tweaking.
Utopia/ Sound of Drums/ Last of the Time Lords would make a perfect six-parter as well as it has a two-part equivalent setup and a four-part payoff, just as it was in the good old days.

Sleep No More would have been a brilliant four parter and the budgetary restraints would only have enhanced the narrative. The best found-footage media reveals very little of the sinister presence following the characters around...

Hm... I've always thought of this. Going through Series 1, I'd say: Rose - Possibly A McCoy Season 25 Story, Which Is A Bit Of A Remake Of Spearhead. 3 parts The End Of The World - Season 17 Story featuring several aliens. Cassandra looks very silly and the monsters are... interesting, to say the least. 4 parts The Unquiet Dead - Hinchcliffe Era Story, Featuring Zombies And Charles Dickens. Looks Really Good. 4 parts. Aliens Of London/World War Three - Season 8 or 9 6 parter political story. Get Rid Of The Slitheen Farting And It's A Bit Similar. 6 parts Dalek - Season 5 or Season 6 story. Base-Under-Seige. Features The Return Of The Daleks. It Should Be Called: The Last Dalek. 4 parts The Long Game - Season 19 Story. Features A Bad FX Jagrafess. 4 parts Father's Day - Season 26 Story. Story Is Very Close To The Transmitted Version, But With Ace Instead Of Rose. 3 parts The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances - Hinchcliffe Era Finale. Features 3 Dimensional Characters and A Terrifying Menace, With Alien Con Men. Oh, Look. It's A Robert Holmes Script! 6 parts Boom Town - Season 24 Story. Vaguely Interesting Concept. Some People Don't Like It For Being Too Silly. 3 parts Bad Wolf/The Parting Of The Ways - Season 21/22. The story has similar ideas to Varos, Revelation, Warriors Of The Deep and Resurrection. It also has quite a bit in the TARDIS... It's also Very Violent. 4 parts.

Dalek - Season 5 or Season 6 story. Base-Under-Seige. Features The Return Of The Daleks. It Should Be Called: The Last Dalek. 4 parts You mean it should be called "The Last Of The Daleks," don't you?

Hey everyone,
I thought this might be an intresting topic: revival stories under the budget (and narrative form) of the original series. Are you coming from the point of view that these revival stories (2005 - 2016) would be screened between 1963 - 1989, with the budget of those times. Or, using the budget from 1963 - 1989 and screened today?

Under The Lake/Flood could very much be a BUS 4 parter. You could do the ghosts as CSO and even just imply the giant tidal wave at the end.

Also, Unquiet Dead wouldn't go to amiss in the Hinchcliffe days. Really, anything with Ghosts could've been slotted into Old Who. Who doesn't love those blue fringes around the actors as they fly around?

The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances This would have been a great Six-Parter. Sure the stuff with the Zeppelin at the start would have been interesting to pull off with the original budget, but alot of other stuff could have been off camera, like the transformations. Also i could have seen this as a 5/Tegan/Nyssa story. Tegan could take alot of the Rose stuff with Captain Jack, while Nyssa and the Doctor, do the stuff with the Hospital. Maybe have Tegan or Nyssa become infected after The Hospital sequence once whoever plays Richard Wilson's role transforms, to give added danger for the Doctor to find out how to save everyone. Or you have it as a 5/Tegan/Turlough story, Turlough gets infected and you still get the Everyone Lives line as it would be a change from alot of things during that era

School Reunion would have been a fantastic Season 21 story: Sarah and K9 meeting up with 5, Tegan and Turlough shortly after the events of The Five Doctors. Tegan would be superbly grumpy working in the school cafeteria, while Turlough could have been a slightly more snarky Mickey.

Interested in seeing Tooth and Claw, if only to see how on earth they would've done the werewolf.
