What would have happened if Colin Baker had been fired from the programme during its hiatus and Sylvester McCoy had been cast for Trial of a Time Lord? How would the season have looked and what other changes would have been made for the benefit of establishing this new Doctor in an increasingly erratic world? Would he have still been travelling with Peri? Would there have been a regeneration shown in flashback?

I suspect that Trial of a Time Lord wouldn't have happenned, Peri would have stayed on for at least part of Seven's first season, and we would have gotten a stupid one-actor regeneration just like we ended up getting when they fired Colin Baker.

I agree Trial of a Timelord wouldnt have happened, but i suspect that they may have had the Valeyard as a villain, is revealed to be the reason the Doctor Regenerated (which will be shown in flashback). Peri would have stayed for maybe two or three of the serials, before being replaced

Peri would have stayed for maybe two or three of the serials, before being replaced I think the only reason the Valeyard existed was to be the Doctor's prosecutor. I'm not sure that they would have come up with the character if they didn't have the trial.

True, but i think a version of The Valeyard would have appeared and explained why The Doctor regenerated and who the Valeyard is in the final serial of this "New" season

It would have been cancelled in 1988.
