Picard Episode 5 : Stardust City Rag.
While there were moments to enjoy (the scene in the casino - can't quite decide if Captain Rios'"disguise" was a nod to Huggy Bear in Starsky and Hutch or Kid Creole, clearly Picard was paying homage to the classic BBC comedy "Allo Allo!" and had Elnor completely forgotten his training in the course of a week?) the odd moment to savour (the brief exchange between Picard and Seven of Nine) and the odd moment (Raffi's backstory - as others have mentioned elsewhere this was shoehorned into the plot way too soon. A year down the line when we've grown to care more about the character maybe, but two episodes in since her introduction..not so much. Though..the Conclave of Eight? Hmmm...🤔), the overall thing that I took away from this week's episode was the message that not only is this a somewhat different universe from the one I used to know..but this time that it's one that appears to lack hope, optimism, heart and humanity.
The torture / murder of Icheb was gruesome to watch and just gratuitous - I get that the intention was his fate was Seven's motivation to seek revenge against Bjayzl, but they could have played this so differently - if instead of witnessing it imagine we hear the sound of the drills, the sound of Icheb's screaming, we see the look of horror on Seven's face when she sees what we don't and her distress when she realises what she must do for the man she considered her child. They could have psychologically tortured Seven, built her feelings of revenge to a crescendo. They could have played on our imaginations..our own worst fears..divided our loyalties to a character we've all known for quite some time by the time of that final scene.
Imagine what might have been if having realised where she was going and against all logic Picard had beamed back down..
And Agnes..granted there was an element of doubt thrown in when she shot the Romulan at Chateau Picard, but I parked it to one side over what appeared to be her hopeful, optimistic, almost charmingly naive nature. Of all the new characters I probably liked her character the most, as I was getting the feeling that she was going to be the heart and humanity of the rag tag crew. So I'm not sure how I feel about the sudden about turn towards a dark side. What could she possibly know that warranted the murder of the man she loved, something she clearly did not want to?
I don't know..halfway through and still plenty of questions. And yet for the first time I'm starting to doubt whether I really want them answered.

Hunters Ep 1
Nazi-Hunters in 70s New York. It's very stylized and OTT but compelling nonetheless. Al Pacino is the name but there's amazing character actors like Saul Rubinek, Lena Olin and Carol Kane on hand too. Most of the heavy lifing here is done by Logan Lerman, who has come a long way since his teen idol Percy Jackson days. Jordan Peele's name is one of many exec producer credits...I've a feeling he's now what Spielberg was in the 80s - someone who lends his name for prestige and the greenlight.
Speaking of actors coming a long way...the young psycho who does the Nazi's dirty work here - and he is BRUTAL - is played by a totally out of type Greg Austin, Charlie from Class. Going from fey alien schoolboy to terrifying neo-Nazi in a few short years yet he still looks the same, it's all in the performance. Wayne Yip who directed a third of Class (as well as Who eps as recently as Resolution), helms Ep 2 and 3 here so I wonder if he was involved in casting Greg.

Hello again. Inside No. 9, ooh clever, clever. Really atmospheric. Great performance by Reese Sheersmith and Fion Whitehead. Loved the set and doesn't the violin music really give you the creeps... One to watch again, even if you know what happens. Complete contrast to last weeks episode, that's what makes this series so special.

Zoe's Extraordinary Playlist
Watch this show!!! Fun and hopeful yet not scared to shy away from real emotion and relationships. Yes, there's singing. But it's handled perfectly and makes sense due to the premise of the show. There's so much potential there. Love it!

Currently working through the monochrome Callan series. It really is great. Woodward nails it in every scene.

I can't believe how quickly its gone downhill. Its not just poor Trek its poor TV.

Locke and key episode 2 (sigh) I want to like this show more than I do🤔 I love the concept of the mysterious creepy house and and all the magical keys😀 I am a sucker for these creepy fantasy house/town with a dark secret narratives! But I am so annoyed by all the forced artificial teen drama 😕 I don’t mind those two genres (dark fantasy/horror and teen drama) together if it’s done well, for example Stranger Things has blended those two genres together brilliantly, but here it just isn’t very well acted or integrated into the plot which makes it feel like it cheapens what could be a memorably imaginative fantasy/horror show. Going to continue on with it if only because the stuff with the house and the keys has me curious🤔😊but I am preparing myself for more cringey teen angst 🙄

MASH: Season 5, Episodes 19-21 - Good stuff. The movie night episode was particularly fun - especially everyone doing Mulcahy impressions and then engaging in a mass pretend shootout.

Hunters Season 1
I swear that is the most insane, bonkers ending to a season of TV I've seen in years. Just...wow...what? Who? When? Whaaaa? 24 meets Order Of The Black Eagle meets The Boys From Brazil. I can't call it "good" - but it was shlockily entertaining. And Greg Austin really is a terrifying beast. We need more of that in his Class character!

The Twilight Zone 2020 - Episodes 1 and 2 I really enjoyed these. Some great touches, especially how they do the Sterling Style narration

You know he was in Who already? Shakespeare Code.

You know he was in Who already? Shakespeare Code. I did😊 I also saw he actually campaigned for the role of 13 before Jodie was cast🤔 Maybe he could be 14?!🤔😊 Nothing wrong with an older Doctor now and again😉Besides he would bring so much personality to the Doctor and seeing him act in Spirited he is so good at dramatic scenes as well as comedy! He does quiet and thoughtful scenes surprisingly well but also has a certain kind of swagger that would immediately give him authority as the Doctor! He would be amazing!😊

Columbo: "The Bye Bye Sky High IQ Murder Case" - What an awful title. And here I thought Doctor Who and its Adjective of Noun titles were too formulaic. I guess you can go too far the other way. Anyhow, a great finale for the truncated Season 6 (3 x90min episodes? What is this, Sherlock?). It's not the most complicated mystery out there, but darn near every scene is gold so it doesn't matter. Getting close to the end of the 70s run now.
