Inside Number 9 “Wise Owl”
An extremely dark and oddly quite moving finale for this series of Inside Number 9.
Also I’m glad to see they’ve been recommissioned for at least two more series. At this point we should consider them among our finest writers on television at the moment.

Obi-Wan Kenobi S01E03. I'm Questioning how the original Film even happens at the moment! Regards mark687 Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if they one day remake the original trilogy

Moon Knight, I'm enjoying this so far. It's a definite weird show, doesn't really follow the comics as I read them back in the 1980's.
Hopefully we see more of him.

At this point we should consider them among our finest writers on television at the moment. This has been a brilliant series. A couple that weren’t my cup of tea, but every single one of the others has been a contender for some of the best they’ve done. I’m so glad they’ve been recommissioned for two more series and are getting their much coveted ninth series! I’d love it if they could guest write a Doctor Who.

The new season of Stranger Things which, while good, had a reveal at the end that I thought was stupid. The new season of Kids in the Hall, several times Season premiere of The Orville which was decent, but I don't think was really 'worth the wait,' so to speak. I know the long delay wasn't their fault, but after three years of waiting, I was expecting more. And, of course, continuing with Obi-Wan Kenobi. I don't think episode 3 was quite as strong as the first two, but it was still good/enjoyable.

The world is very much their oyster at the moment and deservedly so. Personally I’d love to see them do a Big Finish or two. Think either one of them would make for an excellent incarnation of The Collective.

I've just finished Series 1, episode 11 of Survivors.
I've genuinely never seen a proper British drama from the 70s. I've seen every Doctor Who episode from that time, but let's be real, Doctor Who was hardly the average drama for the time. Aside from sitcoms, the next best thing I've seen is Blake's 7, so that's the style of show I was expecting from Survivors. Not only were they both originated by Terry Nation, but they also have a 50-minute episode format, which is something I've only ever come across with Blake's 7 (from that period). While I enjoy B7, I can't deny that the drama didn't always work for me. Also, I could generally feel that I'd been watching a B7 for the full fifty minutes. There's rarely an episode where I don't check the time to see how much is left.
Survivors, on the other hand, is utterly engrossing. There's only one episode that I've felt dragged so far, and that was the episode where they return to the quarry (we must have spent 10-15 minutes just getting Greg from one side to other, in real time!). I was expecting this show to be quite slow in places and, potentially, a bit boring too. Not a bit of it! I've enjoyed the majority of Big Finish's Survivors output, but the original show definitely beats it for me. I think the over-reliance on arcs/miniseries in the BF releases have been to their detriment, as I think the very standalone nature of the original show is much more interesting. They can explore four different topics/themes/ideas in the time it took BF to explore one, and I don't think the BF episodes go that much deeper than the TV episodes.
I LOVE the way in which some of the darker subject matters are addressed. The drug addict in one of the early episodes (played fantastically by Peter Miles!) was done in such a subtle yet obvious way. If the show was made today, a MUCH bigger deal would have been made of it; probably an entire episode would be dedicated to a group of drugs addicts. I think this character, on his own, said everything that needed to be said. And the range of subjects covered... murder, guilt, suicide, abandonment, selfishness, loneliness, capital punishment, etc. (and all by ep 11!). I honestly adore how understated so much of it is. The show wastes no time labouring many of these points, so when they DO really focus on something, it's made all the more impactful. The capital punishment episode is actually spoiled in the interviews on one of the BF releases, but that didn't stop watching the episode for the first time from being compelling viewing.
If you've tried the BF series and haven't sought out the original show, I heartily recommend that you do. I can't tell you how excited I am to watch the rest of it! I'm just really disappointed that the show ended 45 years ago... it means I can't look forward to any new material beyond what I already have.

Finally I was able to purchase the Orville Season Pass. I love the Orville. This is my kind of Star Trek. Anyways, just watched the new episode. OMG. This was beautiful. I cried rivers of tears. Orville is now a very serious and deep and honest show. No more toilet humor silliness. This was a wonderful episode about hate and loss and survivor guild and suicide and how people react to suicide close to them.
Having dealt with the issue first hand (I was a teacher at uni and sadly, this is an issue that still happens all too often), I just think this was beautifully done.
Plus, I like the new visual style of the season, I like the new ships and the upgraded visuals.
This now feels like set deep into some of the darker times of DS9.
Good job.
Plus, Yaphit. The slimy creep from the first season turned into a serious valuable character and he continues to be one of the best character concepts of this show. He is my secret favorite by now.
I mean, how cool is he? They took the old and tired trope of an alien amorphous blob and ran wild with it and show all the magnificent uses a slimy alien blob can have as an engineer.
So yeah, we are off to a great start here.
Orville continues to be one of my favorite shows at the moment.
EDIT: I just googled and learned that the tribute at the beginning of the episode was in memory of the actor who played Yaphit and had died after his battle with cancer. This made me cry again.

Yea the loss of Norm Macdonald was terrible. Even worse that he, Bob Saget, and Gilbert Gottfried were all buddies, and all of them passed within like six months of one another.

The Midwich Cuckoos (Episode One)
It’s good enough to keep me watching at least but I can’t help but feel this is the sort of thing that would have come out in 2006.

Have started a rewatch/catch-up of Better Call Saul. I was 1000% on board with it early on, then kind of lost track of it after season 3 and haven't seen any of it since. So back to the beginning (because I don't remember a lot) and should hopefully be able to finish before or during the last half of the final season (starts in just over a month!).
Taking a little longer than just a straight rewatch though, because a friend told me about the Better Call Saul Insider podcast, which apparently they've been doing episode by episode since the show first started. Hosted by series editor Kelley Dixon, every one I've heard so far has both Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, and there's usually 3 or 4 other guests every episode too (generally one of which is one of the show's main cast).
So alternating episodes and 60-90 podcasts...slows down forward progress quite a bit!

So alternating episodes and 60-90 podcasts...slows down forward progress quite a bit! Episode by episode podcasts are my recent discovery. I’m a dozen episodes into a West Wing rewatch. Third run through it for me, first for the wife. Discovered the West Wing Weekly podcast exists after watching the first few episodes so now I’m also alternating between one or two episodes an evening then playing the podcasts for those on walks with my dog. Kind of eating into my BF listening time though. With all the tv I want to watch, the BF I want to listen to, now the podcasts, and my unwatched film pile and unread books… I was never furloughed during the pandemic. Maybe I could get a year of staying home on full-pay now?
