Having never seen the show or the audios would it make more sense to watch the show first or should I follow the timeline?

Having never seen the show or the audios would it make more sense to watch the show first or should I follow the timeline? I think you could probably do the BF audios straight through without watching the TV series and be able to enjoy it well enough. There may be a couple of points where you are wondering "Who's Garland/Ruth, what's this Whitecross they're talking about, why's Greg in Norway?" but it wouldn't prevent you being able to follow what was going on.
However, the TV series is wonderful, give or take the occasional dud episode, so why deprive yourself?

Oh I’ll definitely watch the TV show. But should i play the audios between the episodes to try and get the full story that way. Or is Show followed by audios the way to go?

If you have access to both then I would do both in the order listed on this thread. My only quibble, and this is purely personal preference, is BF episodes 3.1 and 4.1 are flashbacks to the time of the first TV episode and this thread lists them at that point, whereas if I was doing a listenthru I would put them in release order, i.e. immediately prior to 3.2 and 4.2. This is so that you can listen to the whole boxset straight through one after the other as IMHO it makes for a better listening experience. But the way it is listed upthread is equally valid and probably more technically correct, so it is six of one and half a dozen of the other.

This hasn't been updated in a while, so I thought I'd do so. Changes/additions in bold.
Most placements are, I hope, fairly obvious / self-explanatory for anyone who has watched the TV series and listened to the audios. I did read one online review that placed the audiobook Crusade after TV ep 1.9 Law and Order, but that doesn't work because the personnel changes at the Grange that occur in TV ep 1.10 The Future Hour have all taken place before Crusade kicks off.
The only one that is probably not obvious is that I have moved audio ep 6.4 Lockup to between TV eps 3.6 Reunion and 3.7 The Peacemaker. This is purely down to personal preference - Lockup can really fit anywhere between where it was originally placed (prior to TV ep 3.1) and TV ep 3.10 The Last Laugh that writes Greg out of the series permanently. My preferred listening order would be to place it after Reunion for 3 reasons: (1) it was previously shown to be set straight after Revenge of Heaven but it is clear that quite a bit of time has to elapse between the 2 episodes, i.e. time for Greg to return from Norway with Jack and Agnes, etc. (2) placing it midway between Greg's 2 season 3 appearances (eps 3.2 and 3.10) gives the expanded season 3 a better spread/spacing (3) 3.6 Reunion is something of a mid-season climax and natural break point within season 3, before the Roger Parkes trilogy (eps 3.7 to 3.9) commences

From the Series 8 release news article:So that's pretty solid confirmation that series 8 and 9 will be after the TV series, but suggests that series 7 should be revised back slightly - if it's just "Reconnection" that's past the end of the series? To answer your question 4 years later, I think David Richardson is wrong. 7.2 features Jenny dealing with Greg's death, she only learns of his death in TV ep 3.11 and there isn't really the sort of narrative gap between TV eps 3.11 and 3.12 for 7.2 to fit. So 7.2 really only works after 3.12. David Richardson could only really be right in respect of 7.1, but there's no reason to separate it from the other episodes in the boxset, so my inclination would be to keep them together. In my opinion box sets 7, 8 & 9 work best as a 12 episode season 4 following on from season 3.
