I'll definitely be getting it because I love Shakespeare, and Alex Vlahos is nothing short of brilliant. Plus, Scott Handcock's involvement guarantees a quality adaptation. Their collaboration means magic--as evidenced by the sublime Confessions of Dorian Gray series. I just have to add a few more releases to get some bang for the buck with the per order charge. It really doesn't make much sense to preorder as soon as an announcement is made, which is what I've always done. But, it will definitely be on my 2017 list!

I preordered right away but I don't get many CDs from Big Finish in the first place so waiting doesn't make sense. I would have gotten this release regardless because I think it's really cool Big Finish is experimenting and doing Shakespeare and I'd want to support that but I am very much getting this on CD because of Alex & Scott's involvement. Alex is very passionate about this part and has wanted to play it for a long time so they aren't just doing Shakespeare to do Shakespeare. What will make it different from all the other Hamlet productions out there and are obviously yet to come I can't say. But I do have every faith that Alex will be brilliant in the role. He's a great actor whose star is only rising and I am happy for one that he wanted to do this project he is so passionate about with Big Finish and that we didn't lose him after the Confessions of Dorian Gray. I also absolutely love the rest of the cast. Scott has said Justin Richards who is script editing is a bit of of a Shakespeare expert so they went with the very best. I know a lot of love & care has gone into this production (I remember the excitement when they were recording on Twitter. Heck even before it was recorded and just being hinted at) so yeah if anyone is on the fence I personally say buy. Not going to say I am not biased but I am biased in favor for a very good reason. It's a challenge but one that I think Scott, Alex, & Big Finish are very much up to.

I preordered right away but I don't get many CDs from Big Finish in the first place so waiting doesn't make sense. I woke up yesterday morning at 9.09 am CET. My preorder was made at 9.29 am. I think the only other time I preordered something that excitedly within minutes of it being made available were the Knebworth tickets for Oasis in 1996. 20 years later I'm still glad I did that, and I suspect I will be equally happy with my Hamlet CD 20 years from now.

Thank you. That made my day. A nod to Christopher Plummer. Oh I know the reference. It truly made me laugh plus the original Klingon is a remark I've been known to use from time to time.

I suspect sometime after the New Year we will get some sort of announcement on Dark Shadows: Bloodline, so I will combine that preorder with this one!

Looking forward to this but a little concerned they won't be able to compress it onto 2 or 3 discs, it's a lot of Hamlet to cut down. @scotthandcock , can you confirm if the story 2 discs (2 hours worth) with a third behind the scenes or a 3 hour story? Saying that it is an automatic pre-order for me (once I've decided whether to go physical or download only). Cheers Tony EDIT: Just seen on the details page - it's a 3 hour story

At dialogue edit, the shortest act is 30 minutes, the longest act is 45 minutes - so all five acts fit comfortably across three discs, with space on the third disc for 25 minutes of interview chat after the final act. (So yes, the actual play is pretty much 3 hours dead on).
Trust me, we weren't committing to a format until we had a rough indication just how long the beast actually is!

Yeah Scott, thank you, sir! I just pre-ordered it myself. This is despite the fact that I somehow made it through school without once having to read or watch anything related to Shakespeare, so I never got any kind of appreciation (or lack thereof) at a younger age.
My preorder therefore, is entirely down to my own trust in the abilities of yourself (Scott) and everyone at Big Finish to produce "more than bearable" titles.
a couple little digressions:
1: It's funny, thinking about Shakespeare, even in my adult life (in my mid 40s now) I've still consumed very little direct Shakespeare. My screen name here "Glutamodo" derives from something on the surreal audio-drama/comedy group The Firesign Theatre's 6th album, Not Insane, which also includes a couple of scenes from their Shakespeare parody play Anythynge You Want To, which they constantly rewrote and reworked over the years. While I don't love that album, as it's not very well put together overall, compared to previous efforts, I didn't dislike the Shakespearian skits, which were played very OTT before a live audience. Years later they adapted that same material into a full hour long (studio, not live performance) audio play for National Public Radio, which I bought the CD of, and found it was more than a bit over my head, not really having any background studying The Bard. It became, by far, my least-listened-to FST album.
2: Macbeth. Years ago now, I got interested in a heavy metal rock band called Jag Panzer. Despite being kind of local, they never were big around here or in the States, having most of their popularity in Europe. I bought a few of their albums, including Thane to the Throne, which was kind of an unusual undertaking for an old-school "shred" style heavy metal band, it's a Rock Opera based on Macbeth. After my own experience above in not being able to appreciate a Shakespeare pastiche due not having the background, I decided that before listening to this album, I needed to read the play first. So I did that, downloaded and read the original play at least a couple of times.
(So, was Jag Panzer's version any good? Yes and no, it's got a couple of very good tracks on it, and it's probably Jag Panzer's best produced album. But I think a few more tracks to flesh out and include more of the overall story would have made it better. My favorite tracks included the final one which is something of a long recap of the whole story all together at once www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtkdJspdAmw and "King at a Price" was the album's standout track overall: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJk1-zMpLmE )
As a result, I grew to have an interest in that one Shakespeare play, Macbeth, so maybe someday BF will attempt it as well. I find the "curse" stories of all the various productions of it over the years very interesting as well.

I love Macbeth one of my favorite Shakespeare plays and certainly if Hamlet is a financial success one I'd love for them to consider doing next. But in the meantime if you love Macbeth I highly recommend Throne of Blood www.imdb.com/title/tt0050613/

Macbeth has Lady Macbeth, the wonderful witch sisters, and head witch Hecate! Hamlet has a great ghost. And they all have some of the most beautiful language ever written.
