At the end of reading out the "Buck up Big Finish" email that requested longer stories for Tom Baker on a recent podcast Nick said...
....something is going to be changing in the future with the Fourth Doctor Adventures that may, erm, tickle your fancy!
Since then I have been wondering what that could mean?
Personally I am very happy with the current structure. This current year's series offered to my mind the best of both worlds with four single disc stories and two double release adventures.
But what could they have planned... Simply having more connected stories within the series? Changing to two disc releases thereby creating a shorter series or one that is released every other month? Changing the FDA to three disc box set releases like they did for the War Doctor? Allowing for different combinations of story lengths. Or something completely different?

I wonder if the changes to shipping costs will effect how all the other monthly releases not named the Main Range are produced & packaged. If those increases were to have a effect, then seeing the FDA range morph into a series of three or four disc box sets would make a lot of sense.

Downloads only for the 4DAs for me, so the Dick Turpin (aka DHL) extra 'per order' charge won't affect me on these stories, be they monthly or box-sets.

Four-parters and six-parters would be great news as far as I am concerned. Longer time typical of Tom's TV era, and plenty of time for the plots and characters to breath, and more room for Fourth Doctor-isms. I'm looking forward to finding out what these plans are.

Six stories a year, eighteen episodes between them (the same episode count as next year).

It's Tom Baker on BF. His only line could be hello, I'm the doctor, and half of us would still buy 30 releases a year.
just sayin.

I would be happy with 5 or 6 2cd releases instead of 8-10 singles
Longer stories give the plot more time to develop and don't feel as rushed. The Hinchcliff boxed sets have shown what happens when the story has more time to "breathe"

That's what I think is currently the greatest pity of the 4DA range, you always get stories like White Ghosts where it feels as though you're only holding a third of the whole tale.

Definitely, i felt we got a abridged version of that story & there was a lot more to tell.

If it is a story you aren't enjoying at least it's only the one disc!

Tom replaced Paul when the Eighth Doctor moved into box sets. Now after six series for the Fourth Doctor it might be time for another change, especially if they can tempt David Tennant to sign up for a few series of Tenth Doctor Adventures. Plus if the FDAs moved to three disc box sets they would be a natural replacement to the War Doctor.
As for the FDA range, moving to box sets would allow multi disk stories to be packaged together which would resolve one complaint that is levelled at BF and would allow them to try out/mix up the companions. With three FDA box sets a year they could have one set with Romana, one with Leela and one with Adric or someone new.

I wrote this for the main range thread but I thought this would transfer over very well. It was the first step in a multistep process to make the Doctor Who releases(Warning, last two steps were for fun) But this and the one on the Eighth Doctor, I think would work... For the 4th doctor, here is my solution.
4 4 part adventures for 4 spaced out every 3 months, put would have different companions(Romana in March, Leela in June, Adric in September, And a new companion created for 4 in December!

It's certainly been a while since series 6 went up for pre-order, I'd be very happy if series 7, 8 are announced very soon ... Cheers Tony EDIT: After listening to this week's podcast, I wonder if we might get some more Fourth Doctor and UNIT?

I did hear in the bonus features to Genesis Chamber I think they're up to Series 10.

John Levene had clearly just been doing something with Richard Franklin (presumably UNIT Ikea) and was coming back in a few days, so there could well be something else coming up next year including Benton. I'd love to hear him back with Tom, perhaps Benton is the mystery companion for Tom that's been alluded to recently.

I don't think John and Tom got on terribly well during their TV stories, and I think the Third Doctor has few enough companions without Benton travelling with that 'all teeth and curls' bloke! Just speculation on my part, of course.
