Hey everyone,
Okay, to find the distance from what's happening...let's just imagine Donald Trump in a Doctor Who story (as the villian). Personally, to me, he'd fit perfectly in a Second Doctor story.
JAMIE: What sort of beastie, is that, Doctor? THE DOCTOR: I'm afraid, I just don't know, Jamie. JAMIE: Look at it's face! It don't look too healthy. THE DOCTOR: I think we might just keep our distance, Jamie. A-as you know, injured animals can be easily agiated when roused. JAMIE: And it's a bird nest on top of it's head! The daft thing!

Shockeye was one of the best villians of the entire series. Great dialogue and character work from Robert Holmes.
The Two Doctors doesn't get enough love.
Sad!

The Two Doctors doesn't get enough love. That's because a lot of Doctor Who fans are too busy trying to justify - to themselves and the world - the placement of the Second Doctor and Jamie's appearance, why they look older than they did in 1969, or where Victoria was. There's not enough hours left in the day for them to actually say how much they love it!

3rd Doctor's era. Doctor: Imagine, building a wall just to keep people out, in today's enlightened age. Brig: I think it's a marvelous idea Doctor, though the cost effectiveness leaves me at a loss. Doctor: Cost?! COST?! Is that all you can say about it man? Brig: Oh Doctor, get off your high horse, it's not like you are an illegal alien. I took care of all that paperwork, personally.

At Regeneration Who in March of last year, Nicola Bryant made some comments to her panel audience about Trump building his Mexico wall, saying that U.S. citizens would need the Doctor and Peri to arrive and save them from a Trump presidency. Few people laughed, and one guy near the front yelled out "Mexico's paying for the wall!" Nicola seemed to sense that her comments did not go over well and quickly changed the subject.
I remember chuckling and shaking my head. Celebrities need to understand that people use entertainment as a comforting break from their lives. I'd wager the majority -- of Americans, at least -- don't want to be reminded of hot button political issues at a Doctor Who convention.

Lots of jokes were made at Trumps expense, especially by Peter Davison. The entire room laughed. Although apparently Peter did get in a debate t with a few Trump fans at dinner. I wasn't at that table but a friend of mine was. But I would say Li Who in general had a very liberal atmosphere. Note this con happened directly after it was announced Trump won the election. Got in a lot of discussions with people about the election there.
