Am I not seeing Survivors? I know it was on the new forum when it started up but now I can't seem to find it.

We consolidated some of the boards that don't get as much activity, because we were doing a lot of scrolling past boards with no posts. You can start a Survivors thread in the Worlds of Big Finish board.

Might as well use this thread as I did not see the point starting a new one.
Who else has listened to the Survivors audiobook? I hope it is not a spoiler to say but what a bleak ending. It was very well read though and I really enjoyed listening to it. What does everybody else think?

It will never be a classic novel but it was an enjoyable story, I thought the endng of the Survivors novel was more strange than bleak though... as I'm sure Peter would have recognised his own Mum. Although I wouldn't complain if Abby met the same fate in the BF series! The audiobook of Terry Nation's Survivors novel is good, but the BF series of Survivors audios are way better... and very bleak in parts too.

I liked the audiobook quite a lot, which came as a bit of a surprise given that I don't tend to like narration so much (much more of a full-cast fan) -- and what is an audiobook if not 100% narration? I think one of the things I really liked about was actually that it was so very dark. But even with that said, I absolutely love Big Finish's series. I'm very content for them to just keep doing what they're doing. If they want to, some day, adapt the novel plot points, I'll be happy with that. If they never revisit any of the book's plot points and do entirely original stories, I'll be happy with that too. I trust that they'll keep making a great series

I was the same with Dark Shadows. Sometimes it's good to appreciate things the wrong way round.

Hello again.
I have just seen the original 13 episode first season. After the first episode of season 2 I couldn't watch any more. It was extremely compelling if rather middele class. My goodness wasn't it grim? A really downbeat assessment of human civilisation when things fall apart.
I will go back to it but in my current mood it will make me feel too depressed. I liked the main cast but as I have discovered you can't get too attached to any characters.
The audio version looks interesting but funds for now prevent me from buying any at present. A fascinating piece of Seventies tv.

A fascinating piece of Seventies tv. It did have its lighter moments and less intense episodes, particularly when it occasionally veered into the "faming soap opera" territory in season 2.
The only real criticism I would have of BF's Survivors is that it lack those counter-balancing lighter moments that are needed every now and then.
My favourite (unintentionally) lighter moment is in Corn Dolly when Charles talks about how he and his wife were into self-sufficiency before the Death and they were "devoted to the Good Life"

Hello again.
Yes, Lidar2, I spotted that one too. I also liked the terrifying gang of dogs(!) I think the one character that did lighten things was Aunt Emma.
I also laughed at the pompous Mr. Russell when Greg went and routed him out of his caravan. Poor Charmian having to put up with him.

General post here, as I have been listening, the past three weekends, to episodes 1 & 2 of Set 3, via Spotify and currently back to episode 3 of set 2 via an earlier Bf CD/DL purchase (all new to me).
Cannot exactly describe it as 'enjoyment' as such as by gods its pretty grim stuff, but by heck, they have produced quite gripping and believable adult drama befitting of the scenario.
Its escapism of the end of the world as we know it kind, but best listened to in small doses. Very, very good, but it does make the TV series seem quite a breeze at times in comparison, which is maybe complimentary.....
I was tempted by the sale last week, but as brilliant as it is, one looks forward to listening with trepidation rather than anticipation. Brrr....well done to the team behind it though!
The stuff of bad dreams if the supernatural no longer does it for you....

Well this is interesting. A modern TV review by James Delingpole of 1975 Survivors on Britbox: www.spectator.co.uk/article/apocalypse-seventies-style-britboxs-survivors-reviewedAnd I was particularly interested to learn that Brian Aldiss coined a phrase ‘Cosy catastrophe’, to describe the attraction of this genre. For us brits, its the fantasy that, surrounded by the picturesque countryside that long weekend breaks were surely designed for, that we could have it to ourselves, or at least a bit less crowded, give or take an easy apocalypse or two.....
