I thought the cover could have been a lot better. 1 big blow up of 9, with 2 smaller pics of companions, the vortex behind them, with a planet and the Tardis, pretty generic. A step back IMO, something a high school Freshman could have done better with photoshop. I would say I appreciate their effort, but, there just aint much effort there. Do you think they were limited because it was the new series? Cause the covers to the 1st and 2nd doctors boxed sets look tons better than this one. And that's the only reason I can think of. I can see your point, but the cover is very similar to that of the standard 10th Doctor Adventures set so they might be trying to give the new series releases a consistent style.

She also refused for her likeness to be used for a comic (think it was the Titan Comics 9th Doctor mini-series). They couldn't use it on the cover but they were allowed to use Rose in the story. Well, it wasn't the Titan Comics 9th Doctor series as Rose appears on a few of the covers, in both likeness and photos. I thought there was one cover where she was facing away? Unless it was a different comic.

So torn on this one. I love the Ninth Doctor's year on the programme and the stories all sound interesting but the lack of bona fide Doctor/companions make it seem only tenuously linked with the era they're trying to evoke. Gorgeous cover but not sure it's going to be a purchase yet. Be very interesting to read how it's received.

Still a very mixed reception here.
Rather than wasting time creating a poll, could people 'Like' this post to give an indication of who is actually intending to buy it (or have already pre-ordered)? I'm very interested to know, but I think it would be a waste as a separate thread as there isn't anything more to be discussed that hasn't already been said elsewhere (is that a fair enough conclusion, Mods?).

I intend on pre-ordering it, but not until the month it is released. I'm just happy we're getting a new series release about a new series Doctor. This is the best we're ever going to get with the Ninth Doctor because Christopher Eccleston is never going to do Big Finish.

Not sure about this. I love the 9th Doctor and since it's impossible we will have Eccleston do audios, I would have preferred a CC style with Camille, Noel or John narrating. This basically sounds like Companion Chronicles to me though, just with monster voice Nicholas Briggs voicing them all rather than a companion.

Either way, this is the best we're ever going to get with Christopher Eccleston's Doctor. New series Doctor checklist: Sir John Hurt - Tick. RIP. Christopher Eccleston - No tick. Near-impossible unless he has a change of heart. David Tennant - Half tick. Already done one set, but may be too busy at the moment. Rumours of a Tennant and Piper set. If not true Volume 2 is extremely likely to happen eventually though. Matt Smith - No tick. Too busy chasing the Hollywood dream at the moment but very likely to do Big Finish. Peter Capaldi - No tick. Big Finish don't have the license yet but no doubt they wkll after he leaves this Christmas. Extremely likely to do Big Finish

I have preordered this set. I'll be frank the main reason why I bought it is not because it's 9th Doctor, the format, or the characters in it. I saw Scott Handcock wrote a story in this and that's enough for me to buy. Actually as I said previously the entire writers list is fantastic as Cavan Scott, Una McCormack, & James Goss are also wonderful writers. And on another note I am also always happy to see Big Finish use a female writer. And whether I buy the 10th and 11th Doctor sets will probably also be contingent on who the writers are of that set. Although if they somehow get Arthur Darville back as Rory for the 11th Doctor one that would also probably be a definite buy.
So in the addicted to Big Finish thread I probably should say I started buying Big Finish based on who worked on it not just who is in it.

Arthur Darvill would be brilliant, although it's probably more likely to be Sophie Okonedo and Danny Horn.

The emphasis on Eccleston really bothers me. Although his name isn't displayed on the cover, the sheer size of his image is potentially misleading -- particularly for people who have never listened to Big Finish and know nothing about the style of the Companion Chronicles.
I have similar problems with the Short Trips releases, which always unfairly place the face of the Doctor on the cover even though the companion actor is the sole performer. I know that's done to increase sales, but it's kind of dishonest.

Generally I have pre-ordered new series stuff instantly, but with these I am really torn as I think we have enough new series stories "without" the Doctor (as it were) and these stories could easily be adapted into existing ranges. Consequently, I haven't ordered them yet ... and still not sure whether to. Cheers Tony Agreed
Fair play to BF for being up front and saying narrated by Nick Briggs as an outside voice, but because of it, its not a give it to me now range for me I'm afraid.
Great Cover as usual though.

Nick Briggs is a good narrator, I'll say that. But I'm still not excited enough about this range to pre-order.

While I'm of course interested in this, I'm not one for pre-ordering generally. I'll probably get it after release, providing reviews aren't negative. I've no issue with narrating really, providing it's not too descriptive.
