It certainly seems strange that Matt Lucas is on The Nightly Show promoting Doctor Who tomorrow:

What's strange about this? An actor trying to sell his imminent new series to audiences goes on a light entertainment chat show to do just that. Chat shows book guests who have something to promote and have done since the dawn of TV, the host liking or disliking what the guest is shelling isn't really relevant. The Nightly Show just want guests - and by God they've struggled to get anything above D-list since debuting - so getting a Matt Lucas is a no-brainer regardless of whether he's in Who.

What's strange about this? Doctor Who is a BBC Show and ITV haven't advertised it in a long time. Last time they did in a late night slot was with The Jonathan Ross Show and that was largely because Jonathan Ross is a Whovian. That's why I'm wondering if Jason Manford is too.

As Davy says, guests with some exposure are far more vital to a show than what they are selling, otherwise no one would ever book that Hopkins person.

Well, thanks for clarifying what channel makes Dr Who, DB. BBC Shows have people on ITV all the time and vice versa from Sunrise, Breakfast, The One Show, Norton to, yes, The Nightly Show. In the RTD era there was plenty of times Who had loads of coverage on GMTV. There's no conspiracy or taboo in mentioning the opposition for chat shows, their goal is the shows own ratings. Indeed, Capaldi's on Graham Norton on Friday so it's really just a case of covering as many bases as possible to promote the show.

I don't think Jason Manford has a say in who's been booked to be on the show. In fact, I imagine Matt was booked for the show when David Walliams was still doing it. And after seeing that first week's run, I wouldn't be surprised that there has been a change of line-up from Peter to Matt as Peter Capaldi seems to be very 'damage-control' aware when it comes to publicising DW. Peter has form, a decorum, he has... he has.. a 'bouquet'. I can't say I blame him as most of the interviews have been utter tripe. Matt seems a lot more relaxed when it comes to how shows approach things, he likes cheeky and banter.

There's cheeky banter and then there's David Walliams pretending to be Kenneth Williams and failing.

Don't worry. I'm sure that if he is, he'll have time for Big Finish in his schedule.

Doubt Jason Manford has anything to do with what guests are booked for the show. Nice to see some publicity for Who on ITV though
