Thinking about getting three or four of the stories on offer, any recommendations? (I've only seen the first three 5th Doctor serials, though I've listened to maybe a dozen of his BF audios) (Heard good things about Fanfare, and the 5th Dr Boxset) My top three from those on offer would be The Boxset The Emerald Tiger - hard to describe, but it's a fabulous adventure in literary (rather than real) India at the time of the Raj. One of my favourite MR releases. The Butcher of Brisbane - a great story in its own right and a must have for any fan of 'The Talons of Weng-Chiang'.

Hello again. Fanfare for the Commen Men? Quite simply superb. Both 5th Doctor and Nyssa really well-written. Great work from the supporting cast including Who fan Mitch Benn. A rare musical Who story with a cheeky sci-fi twist. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Went straight into my Top 10 of Big Finish stories easily on first listen

If I had to pick one it would be a tie between The Emerald Tiger and 1963: Fanfare For the Common Man. I would really like to see Barnaby Edwards write more.

Happy Birthday, Peter! Thankfully I already have all of your Big Finish audios because you and your Doctor are awesome. I think my three favorites from the offerings are The Emerald Tiger, Fanfare for the Common Men, and Tomb Ship, which I think is a great story for having such an unusual setting. Most of the rest were pretty good too although for some reason I wasn't as moved by the Eldrad story or The Burning Prince as I thought I should be - I might need a fresh listen to those?

This is the first time I've seen it below 20. Yeah, it's normally 25.00 for download and 30.00 for CD. Now's the time to buy if you're interested. And quite right too - it's absolutely great! Two excellent stories that are still my favourite Fifth Doctor adventures produced by Big Finish.

I haven't seen any of the serials with the Turlough/Nyssa/Tegan team, would I be able to follow the 159-161 trilogy ok? (Emerald Tiger, Jupiter Conjunction, Butcher Of Brisbane)

(Emerald Tiger, Jupiter Conjunction, Butcher Of Brisbane) Yes and it's a great trilogy. The main thing to bear in mind when these stories begin is that when the Doctor, Turlough and Tegan met up with Nyssa again in 'Cobwebs', fifty years of her life had passed after she left the TARDIS in the TV series 'Terminus' - for the others, it was about a week. Nyssa (of Traken) is kind, caring and very clever and now has half a century of medical research and practice to draw on, and a family she left behind when she went on the final medical mission from which the Doctor rescued her. Turlough is also an alien, has a history of looking out for number one and hints of a past life of some status. He tried to kill the Doctor a few times when they first met, but that's a long story and his heart wasn't really in it. He eventually became enlightened, but Tegan still doesn't totally trust him. And Tegan is a bolshie Aussie, but you'll spot that! (And I like her character a lot, though this view is not universally shared! )

(And I like her character a lot, though this view is not universally shared! ) I've warmed to her quite a lot thanks to the post-Enlightenment stories, the television stories did her no favours. I'm really glad that they got a second life on audio because their stories feel like what we could've or should've gotten in Season 20. One of my favourite memories is of her and the Doctor on a cropduster for The Cradle of the Snake.

Only picked up The Burning Prince in the end from this sale. Glad I did because BF then announced another sale!
Cheers

One of my favourite memories is of her and the Doctor on a cropduster for The Cradle of the Snake. The sequence where Nyssa and Turlough are looking sheepish? Yes, BF are so very good at giving companions (and even Doctors) better second lives. But I did like her on TV too, even if the character wasn't always written with subtlety. She's always ready to stand up for herself and others and needs to know why a given authority is right - even the Doctor, trying the patience of Five at his most saintly. (Can you imagine Tegan paired with the Sixth Doctor??!! I'd like to hear that )

Since I owned all the Sixth Doctor releases on offer in this sale, I spent no money this time around.

Here we are in the middle of Monday and this sale is still going!! It took all my willpowerto resist during the long weekend. If this is still going on when I get home tonight I don't think I'll be able to hold out anymore!

Both sales are running until midday tomorrow I believe. Give in to the power of the Fifth and Sixth :-D Well, I don't know if I 'gave in' but I at least broke my 'no sale purchases for a month' pledge. Just picked up Fanfare & Criss- Cross. Proud of myself for showing restraint with only getting two (how many more hours is this sale?.....need to hide my laptop until its over....)
