The first four Dark Shadows audiobooks are the only ones I don't have. Are those releases, including Angelique's Descent worth picking up? In my view, absolutely, 100% yes. Angeliques Descent 1 and 2 is lovely, but Lara's reading is intoxicating. I think it might have been the third disc, and her voice was almost hypnotising. Clothes of Sand and The Ghost Watcher remain two of my favourites, even now. The stories are beautiful, genuinely. They also feature, apart from Kathryn Leigh Scott who is always excellent, the actor chosen to play Barnabas in the 2004 pilot, Alec Newman. He plays two entirely unconnected characters here, and is terrific. I cannot recommend these stories strongly enough. Clothes of Sand and The Ghost Watcher also represent early and post-show Maggie, with Clothes of Sand taking place shortly after her abduction and imprisonment by Barnabas, and The Ghost Watcher picking up on Maggie from where the show left her. The music for these four releases comes from the score Joseph Fox did for the first full cast season, which adds more atmosphere to the stories.

This 50% off everything is such a great deal, I almost wish I wasn't completely up to date with every release so I could get them all at bargain prices! I said "almost".
In all seriousness, the track record is so great, I'm happy to keep preordering at full price to show my complete support....and maybe I'm doing my part to keep more deals like this in the future for listeners who don't have all the releases and want to complete their collections! I know it's money well spent for entertainment that I love.

Dark Shadows is one of the few ranges, up until a few hours ago, where I didn't have a complete run. I think all that is left is Dalek Empire and Pathfinders . So lots of Big Finish to listen to.

...this is why I shouldn't post pre-coffee. I meant Angelique's Descent, the two-part CD only adaptation of Lara Parker's book that technically makes up the first two volumes of the 50-release range (essentially making it 48 releases and an audiobook). 9_9; Some minutes later after posting my comments it dawned on me that you might have meant Angelique's Descent. Ms Bouchard was already vindictive enough during her lifetime! And you being primarily a download customer (US based) has a lot to do with not already owning that CD only 2-parter - happy shopping this weekend. My immediate thought was "Isn't Angelique's Revenge the implied subtitle of pretty much every Dark Shadows story?" Then I reflexively hid all of my ascots for fear that they might be used to choke clay dolls of me.

I've never heard a Dark Shadows release and have only seen the movie with Johnny Depp, but I want to get into these. Can someone recommend the best ones? I'm a big fan of Dorian Gray so do you think I should get the crossover releases first?

I've never heard a Dark Shadows release and have only seen the movie with Johnny Depp, but I want to get into these. Can someone recommend the best ones? I'm a big fan of Dorian Gray so do you think I should get the crossover releases first? You can go with: a. The House by the Sea (which features Colin Baker as a stranger arriving in Collinsport and getting caught up in some of its dark secrets); or b. Bloodlust, a 13 episode full cast mini-series. It also opens with strangers arriving in Collinsport, and is a perfect introduction to the various residents and their dirty laundry. If you enjoy House by the Sea, there's also the 1973 set of stories, which includes Beneath the Veil, The Enemy Within, The Lucifer Gambit, The Flip Side, Beyond the Grave, The Harvest of Souls, The Happier Dead and Carriage of the Damned. If you enjoy Bloodlust, there are several stories which follow characters after that story. Includes Panic, The Curse of Shurafa, In the Twinkling of an Eye, Tainted Love and ...and Red All Over. If you're interested in the Tony and Cassandra announcement, their stories are stand-alone in terms of continuity. They team up to tackle supernatural threats in The Death Mask, The Voodoo Amulet, The Last Stop, The Phantom Bride and The Devil Cat. You're a Dorian Gray fan, so I can recommend The Skin Walkers and The Darkest Shadow. The Skin Walkers features the Lowells, who were also in the third series of Confessions of Dorian Gray, while Darkest Shadow features Dorian in a cameo role. The earlier stories, as well as the first couple of full cast seasons can be harder for listeners unfamiliar to the show to penetrate, relying more on continuity from the show. Still, if you are interested the Dark Shadows Wiki is a handy place to read up on character backgrounds in case your feeling lost.

I'm a big fan of Dorian Gray so do you think I should get the crossover releases first? I'm going to give the same answer I gave someone on Facebook (perhaps it was you, nitronine? ). The first experience I had with Dark Shadows was the 'Night Whispers' audio - as it turned out, one of the more continuity-based releases available. And that didn't taint my enjoyment of the story at all. As an introduction to this strange new world, my enjoyment of it just made me want to find out more about Collinsport and the characters therein. So my advice, such as it is, is to pick up any audio you like the look of. Chances are you will absolutely love it. And then pick up some more - but I'd take advantage of this weekend's amazing sale, because it might be a long time before you can get them at these prices again. Enjoy!

That was my plan...I've always liked the blurb of The Happier Dead so bought that one, plus I got the rest of Bloodlust whilst it is cheap.

Do the Vol 1 and 2 collected editions of Dark Shadows Bloodlust have any extras? (The series subscription is a little bit cheaper so I'm leaning towards getting that but will pay more for bonus stuff.) Ta! The CDs have Snowflake and all the character trails on them.

Question for all you Dark Shadows experts. I am thinking about either getting The Windcliff Bundle which includes Clothes of Sand, The Ghost Watcher and Echoes of Insanity as well as adding The Final Judgement and The Lost Girl to the cart or getting the five Tony and Cassandra releases. I am leaning towards Tony and Cassandra, but if people think that Windcliff is the stronger set of stories I will go for that.

I'm a big fan of Dorian Gray so do you think I should get the crossover releases first? Also with no TV experience, I dived in during an earlier sale The realeases I got were:- The Tony and Cassandra stories (Death Mask, Voodoo Amulet, Last Stop, the Phantom Bride, the Devil Cat) -effectively a spin-off stands out well. Quentin Collins (Skin Walkers, Blood Dance, London's Burning, creeping Fog, London's burning,Operation Victor, The Darkest Shadow) - another good range following Quentin's immortal life from the end of the 19th century towards main TV era Trask Family (The Wicked and the Dead, The Carion Queen, the Poisoned Soul and The Fall of the House of Trask) - a great set the first drama series - not a good introduction - familiarise yourself with the characters from other releases first Since then I have bought all Big Finish's Dark Shadows releases to date (including the music and the "Making of " release) others recommended House by the Sea The Eternal Actress (if you enjoy Nev Fountain's off-beat writing (I do))

It depends on how much money I have left to last me until payday next week, but I'm thinking about getting either one or both halves of 'Bloodlust' and 'And Red All Over', as I'm a Burke fan (I haven't really heard any of the other DS stories, so would anyone say that there's any 'required listening' for '& Red'?...)

I would say the only one thing that you should listen to first before And Red All Over is Bloodlust, so you'll need both volumes of that. And if you're a Burke fan maybe you want Blood & Fire too as Mitch Ryan is in it (and so is the character of Laura).

I wasn't really a fan of Laura in the series (if I remember correctly, I thought the arc dragged on a bit too much for my liking & that might have drained onto my opinion of her), but in this I really rather liked her!

I own kind of a weird smattering of Dark Shadows releases and I was just thinking the other day that I hope there's a sale soon so that I can fill in some gaps. I was able to fill in quite a bit with this sale, including the rest of the Quentin releases that I needed and was alarmed that I didn't have yet.
