I'm a little surprised to read this if I'm honest, especially when you consider in recent years we've had Pete Walsh, Elliot Crossley, Chris Walker Thompson and even a certain Jonathan Carley give us their impressions / interpretations of the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th Doctors in videos across social media... Rumour is BBC have insisted all Actors involved in BF "Are members of a recognized Acting Guild /Union" eg Equity Regards mark687 I'm pretty sure this was made illegal?

Just a thought - could it be an opportunity to reignite the flame that was the Companion Chronicles? Start the range again but have it exclusively for 11th/12th Doctor companions. Since Michelle Gomez, Alex Kingston, Dan Starkey, Neve McIntosh, Catrin Stewart, Arthur Darvill, and now Caitlin Blackwood and Safiyya Ingar are actively recording stuff for BF they could be used to tell future stories for Moffat-era Doctors. 11th Doctor (Amy/Rory) - Caitlin Blackwood or Arthur Darvill 11th Doctor (Victorian era) - Dan Starkey, Catrin Stewart, or Neve McIntosh 11th Doctor (Valarie) - Safiyya Ingar 11th Doctor (Clara) - Realistically Alex Kingston or any of the Paternoster Gang actors could take these ones 12th Doctor (Clara) - Any of the Paternoster Gang actors or Michelle Gomez could tackle this era 12th Doctor (Bill/Nardole/Missy) - Michelle Gomez EDIT: Just realised there's obviously also Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver who could be used for anything in the Moffat era. Hell, even use Ken Bones as the General for stories set on Gallifrey if they want to do that. That’s exactly my thinking. Use the Short Trips format as the stories will require narration in lieu of a Doctor, but treat it like the Torchwood range with the release schedule, 60 minute runtime (avoid the natural repetition of cast you get with the STs where two are recorded in a day) and the ever expanding roster of characters. I’d envisage a first year comprising of 6 Eleven and 6 Twelve stories, then let’s say Tennant hasn’t recorded much for a while, so you could then look to perhaps get Alex Kingston to handle one. Then that could expand if, say, Catherine Tate is available. Then that leads into handling other TARDIS teams across the show and would help to address the current issues faced with the original cast of the First & Second Doctor eras in particular. The range would always emphasise the Eleventh & Twelfth Doctor eras in lieu of dedicated ranges, with at least three or four releases apiece a year, but I see no reason for it to expand as and when the opportunity arises. I think that’d help keep it fresh and consistent and avoid the issues faced with the Companion Chronicles where sales could vastly differ per release. That would be my preference anyway. And indeed I was critical when Dudman was announced for the Ten, Eleven & Twelfth Doctor Chronicles originally because for the most part the above cast were regularly recording with Big Finish and more besides. My opinion has shifted a little now, as I wouldn’t be without Valerie or that second Eleven Chronicles set. Both of these are excellent ideas (and yes, I am extremely annoyed that I didn't think of it first..🤪). While my affection for anything new that features surviving cast members of the First and Second Doctor's era remains undiminished, William Russell's appearance in The Power of the Doctor last year was a reminder that those opportunities become more finite with each passing year. We've been lucky to have what we've had. So with that said..if a revised and revived Companion Chronicles range is something that could keep a foothold in both the Eleventh and Twelfth Doctor's respective eras and keep Safiyya in the mix after the Doctor Chronicles' comes to a end..well, I'd happily type in my debit card number on the BF website for a pre-order. Fingers crossed that Big Finish are thinking along similar lines.

It’s likely a few different factors. Their main actor has stepped away, the Ninth Doctor strand quietly disappeared when Eccleston reprised the role (for a time it seemed like Dudman would handle any future sets), the second Ten set almost feels like an afterthought release now as so much Tennant material got recorded in lockdown. There’s no sign of any more Twelve on the horizon and it’s Dudman’s weakest portrayal. Eleven is the only one they’ve really stuck with and even then they’re far removed from the original vision of “Chronicles”. It’s also Dudman’s most notable role so him leaving after what will be 6 sets is quite a void to fill if they continue in their current format. I wouldn’t have thought any of them are likely to be big sellers due to them not featuring the on screen cast, or at least no companions. It’s quite an inconsistently handled range really, so Dudman stepping away does give them the opportunity to consider what it is they want to do with these Doctors. The biggest omissions with Big Finish are Eleven & Twelve as Smith & Capaldi have yet to join, but they’re also the two eras with so many of the other cast regularly working with Big Finish that they could go back to a more traditional Chronicles format, whilst broadening the scope and reducing the need to recast the Doctor. I’d personally quite like to see them adopt a hybrid of the Short Trips and Torchwood monthly range. Honestly unless its Full Cast i dont really see New Who actors being used for Narration, especially Michelle Gomez, Alex Kingston and Arthur Darvill

The Companion Chronicles ended because of low sales. Michelle, Alex, Jemma, Ingrid and the Paternosters are going to have full-cast stuff prioritised anyway, and The Lone Centurion specifically appealed to Arthur because it was outside of established continuity.

Well that's surprised me I'm sure a rationale behind BF casting is Union Member preferred at BBC insistence . Regards mark687 I’m not sure why they’d be bothered, tbh. And I don’t know for certain, but a lot of the older companion actors have basically retired from acting, so I’d be surprised if they kept up their dues.
