From the E-Mails Praise for CDS for their superior sound quality over vintage Vinyl and a reminder that rewinding VHSs apparently made them last longer (Tangent newish CD Players are available) Praise from a long term listener and an idea of reviving the Novel Adaptations with the harder to get books (Nick's still reluctant as even they would be slow sellers)
I looked up those CD players. Either the guy emailing got a BARGAIN or he's massively paying over the odds for the discs.
Incidentally, solution to the Novel Adaptations problem - why not do them as the Audio Novels range? Forget about adapting them, just read them?

Aside from what sales might look like, it may be a licensing issue. I don't know that BF is allowed to do narrated adaptations like that. All the Audio Novels up to now have always had a second actor (hence the Dalek overload in the early days of the range).

Problem might be that the unedited unabridged NAs may not all get BBC approval as suitable for a family audience and would therefore require some editing / rewriting. But at that point they start to lose some of their appeal to the purists who want the full experience of the original novel. Not an issue with a dramatisation because that is an adaptation which of necessity involves some pruning. And once you start rewriting, why not tweak it to fit in with all the subsequently established bits of Who lore, e.g. trying to reconcile Lungbarrow to the Timeless Child, etc. etc.?

I think it will happen at some point. If nothing else they can cast a new Captain Jack in five years time and use them. It’s too much money on the shelf to be lost for all time, unless BBC paid them a kill fee and required them to never release, which seems like needless spending on BBC’s part.

The most likely scenario in which Absent Friends ever gets released at this stage is if it's part of a boxset so they can release it as quietly as possible - we know there was no content that might make it inappropriate for younger audiences, as that was a requirement of having the Doctor in it, so it could even get repurposed as a DW story.
I don't think they'll cast a new Captain Jack, much less re-record Absent Friends with him. The range has proven it can work just fine without him.
